20221103_155057.jpg Recently finished putting back together a Model 94 Ranger (nothing special about it) that came to me in a box, with just the complete receiver, magazine tube, crushed magazine spring and a few other odds and ends... but the price was right.

Picked up a universal length spring from MGW, counted the coils on the old spring and left a couple on just to be safe.. having issues with the first couple rounds having trouble finding their way into the chamber... wondering if the extra coils in the spring are messing with the position of the round on the lifter, and that's the cause of the issue? Or might it be something else? I guess I'm hoping that it's the spring, as that would be the easiest fix.

Appreciate your time.

My 94, in 30-30 has about 12” extra spring length past the magazine tube when the cap is off.

Do you have the follower that goes on the end of the spring?

Sounds like to me you have a little lip on the receiver, that’s catching the rim of a cartridge in the transition between the magazine tube and receiver. Mine had just a faint little edge that I rounded on the receiver. Maybe .010.

Mine intermittently would catch and I’d hear the cartridges in the tube spring rearward after cycling the action. Rounded that edge with some 600 grit paper and it stopped.

That is a good looking rig right there. Nice set up.

I would have bought the spring from Winchester. Factory parts rae generally in spec.
