I recently saw for sale a number of older lever guns, 94's and the bigger receiver lever rifle. What would be a fair price for a 1926 94 in fair-good condition? Also what to look for before buying to ensure its a good unit?

I just paid $600 for a 1911 model 94 saddle ring carbine and thought I stole it. Look for matching numbers and equal wear patterns. How bad do you want it, and what are you willing to pay, that's what it's worth.

I felt that it was overpriced as far as asking price the action felt sloppy. I think the barrel was about 20" bluing had wear.

Same model as I saw condition of yours is slightly better. Asking on the one I saw was 1900? Iirc

Regardless of the price for one that old??

Carefully inspect the bore for corrosive primer rust & pitting.

Also common is muzzle wear from 100 years of careless cleaning rod use.

If the muzzle rifling is worn out cone-shape from a cleaning rod?
The rifle will not stabilize a bullet, no matter what you do.

When open, the action on a 94 will seem sloppy. The lever will have some slop when closed but not gripped against the stock. Nature of the beast, not a defect.
