The Mosin Nagant is a bolt action rifle and not sensitive to the burning rate of powder as long as it is not an overcharged round. The Garand is a gas operated semi-auto designed with a small acceptable operating pressure range in which to operated. That's why it's limited to certain bullet weights and propellant selections.

In short any 7.62 x 54R round will work fine in your M-N. 91/30.

They work good. No over spec over pressure stuff out there from what I know so your good to go provided your Mosin is within specs *headspace etc*.

Mosin Nagants will eat just about anything you feed them.

The store bought stuff you see like Wolf will work just great in it.

Remember, some of the older surplus ammo is corrosive. However, the new x54R stuff is not.

I would like to see a torture test done on a Mosin... just round after round after round.

I wonder if you could make the barrel glow with a whole spam can...

You would have to have shooters lined up, figure 440 rounds in the spam can, that means like what... 44 shooters? lol

If you have any extraction issues, and many do, it is probably due to a dirty/rough and or corroded chamber. Sometimes Mosin bolts need some fairly 'vigorous mechanical agitation' to open after firing, especially with some of the hotter surplus ammo. If your headspace is ok, fire away.

Re: Huskers Russian 7.62...

I do not own a Moison Nagant but the ballistics are as modern as today and very effective. I do however reload for all my old military calibers and have found them (Mausers calibers) to be all excellent performers both on deer and on paper. I say if you can reload for the Russian you should be more than happy with its performance. It also has a long history of target and sniper use so it can perform. All these old cartridges have characteristics that were designed into them reliability and some features that today are considered "musts" for accuracy. However I do use wolf ammo and it can shoot well and reliably so of course try it. Experimenting with brands is enlightening and fun. Good Luck.

I have had extraction issues with the 205 grains not all time but some times. Used them all up and now shoot lighter grains with no problems what so ever.
