OK folks. this is a modern technology invention here. it has ATF approval and listed as a primitive ignition system for black powder percussion locks. It replaces the drum in the barrel and allows us to use 22 nailgun blanks. It features a double safety (one on the hammer and one on the adapter itself. The cost on the nailgun blanks (basically a 22 caliber blank) is $5.87 for 100 at lowes ($0.0587 per shot) and comes in several flavors, the differences being higher the number the more powder in the shell, i.e. #1 and #2 to just replace the percussion cap, #5 and #6 to replace the percussion cap *AND* the main powder in the barrel. You can obtain around 800-900 fps with the #5-#6 blanks.

Here the device is all closed up, in 'safe' mode. You can see the screw that goes into the barrel here.

Here is with it 'open', note the ramp at the bottom of the hole, that will fit under the rim of the shell and pull it out when fired. allows easy access.

Here is a shell inserted.

And here is the shell itself in case many are not up with their design.

Oh and the makers home page if anyone is interested in more info about it.

What the heck is next? An electronic ignition like is on some of the inline guns? Man, this just isn't right. It's not anything like traditional muzzleloading. Anybody who buys one of these things is just a lost soul. Just my opinion. It's free and worth every damn bit of it.

Nothing wrong with it,really.I like innovation. When it comes to BP I personally prefer Civil War era stuff, but I have no prejudice against Revolutionary War guys or inline hunters...

just went to the website. That is neat! The price is just about right too,and if I had an old CVA Kentucky pistol or rifle laying around,I'd probably have to buy one.

It would be interesting to see what kind of velocity would be possible if the device was installed on guns having the smaller .32 - .36 caliber bores without using any powder.
Maybe this device would work to ignite the new Blackhorn 209 powder that requires the stronger 209 primers to set it off?
It could also open up some new shooting possiblities at indoor shooting ranges where muzzle loaders generally aren't allowed due to being too smokey & powerful.

Interesting stuff

Thanks for posting that BlackNet .
Pretty amazing what great minds think up for no good reason and for who might want to use these inventions ?
Pretty Nifty invention there though , a builders accessory for sure , something new , interesting , and probably all kinds of fun too .
Nothing ceases to amaze me anymore .
The Nobel Peace Prize keeps comming to mind today for some odd reason ? Good Greif .
Just remember Remingtons RIDER Parlor guns were probably the first real NO POWDER guns anywyz, this is just another spin off of that , although its quite cool and quite high tech . I personally think its something I would have fun with at least . Thanks for posting that .

Jaeger

PS........My Hilti Concrete Nail gun does the same thing , Just hold the Barrel back , pull trigger, shoots a 2-1/2 nail with Velocity very far , no FFL required . :D

Gee, when will there be a flintlock adapter for those of us who want to go modern? ;)

Kidding, I don't want one.

Gee Gary, I was gonna get busy tearing down one of my old Zippo lighters and see if I could make an automatic wheel sparker using the Zippo flints and the thumb wheel instead of you having to knapp your own!!

I'll throw the plans away and retract my patent application..

Arcticap the velocities for 32 through 50 caliber are listed on the home page.

I like it. I may buy one. I have a 32 and a 36 coming. I like the idea of no powder and low noise. Also no BP fouling to clean up. Now if someone would invent a non corrosive smokeless powder for BP rifles my life would be complete.

very cool. I admire smart people who never stop thinking about new ways to do things. That's how we got the great guns we have today. :)

Are you trying to reinvent the wheellock?

It's neat but I'm not terribly interested in it. The maker says he's working on a .22 rimfire conversion for cap & ball revolvers. Now that I am very interested in.

Yes it has great potential. less cleaning, indoor ranges, lack of percussion caps (going on everywhere now)

Those 22 cal nail driveing blanks may be a little much for lighting BP ...
some times a real hot primmer will move the main charge before it has a chance to light it ...then accuracy suffers .
It may be something a guy that just hunts with BP would enjoy .
Might be just the thing for hard to light sub powders too .
I don`t have a use for it ..Real Black lights real easy .

Don't be too quick to reject this. It looks like just the ticket for dislodging a stuck ball! Those CO2 things are worthless in my experience.

I also like the idea of target practice without the fowling. On a good day at the range I may be able to fire off 25 to 40 roundballs with regular black, and that includes a periodic scrub between volleys. That's just not enough practice for my needs.
