I inherited Grandpa's 222 Remington this spring. It currently has the vintage Bausch and Lomb 2.5-8 straight tube with the adjustable mount. I'm getting a Burris from a coworker that I'd like to replace it with. But I'm not sure what I need for bases/rings. It seems on the back it has a dovetail then the front is tapped. That rifle sure is a little sweet heart! Ended up taking a yote this spring with it. A lot easier on the pelt that the 22-250 lol!

All the Sakos I ever saw had tapered dovetails front and rear. Maybe the B&L is screwed down because they did not make a base to fit the dovetails.

Leupold makes rings that fit directly on the dovetails and also QD bases that go on the dovetails to take regular Leupold QD rings.

Conetrol makes (or made, are they still in business?) their DapTar bases for Sako.

Talley does.

I'm just curious

I too have a Sako Riihimaki with a peep sight mounted on the dove tail. I also have a later pre Garcia 243 with Sako mounts and a Burris scope.
Hang on it gets better. I have a 1950's custom Mauser that has been rebarreled at least once to 6.5x284. It still has what everyone considers the original scope and mounts for the period it was built.
The scope is a B&L 2.5x8 straight, no adjustments and the mounts are adjustable Leupold.
An old hunting partner has a 1950's 270 mod. 70. It has the same scope but with the B&L adjustable mounts.

I'm telling you, once you get that combination zeroed in for what ever range you decide it will be fail safe. Hey, it worked for your Grandfather and you already killed a Yote with it.
Why make a change.....................
