Hi there, I purchased a VG condition 1858 new army the other day but it does not have a cylinder.
There are many types available, uberti, euro arms, shootist etc.
Which one would drop into an original remington?

Also check with Dixie Gun Works, who were in the business before replica guns came along. They used to have new cylinders, barrels, and other parts that were made to fit the original guns. Be aware that they may be more expensive though.

I have some cylinder measurements for you. Check them against the distance from the shield to the forcing cone and subrtact about .006" (room from front & back clearance).

Cylinder Lengths

Pietta 2.016"

Armi San Paolo/Euroarms 2.006"

Uberti 1.999"-2.000"

My money is on ASP/Euroarms...

It would depend when your Remington was made ...is it stamped NM or New Model on the barrel ..I have a original 1858 NM that a Pietta Remington cylinder fits . The earlyer Beals model is a smaller frame ..and might be a different story ..There are alot of these old originals still around today ..and people that have them will argue about the frame size ...but there were indeed 2 frame size 1858 Remingtons . Heck I had to buy an original just so I would know what was going on .
