Modern style revolver?

I was wondering are the S&W model 19-3 considered a modern style revolver? Are the mechanisms of the 686 similar to the model 19s?
 
It depends on how you define "modern." The basic lockwork dedign on both the revolvers goes back about 100 years. :what:

But on the other hand the many single action style revolvers (excluding Ruger's) are still the same as the original Colt Single Action Army that first saw light in 1873, and much of its lockwork dated from the Colt cap & ball model 1851 Navy.

So while many improvements have been made the basic designs go way back, but so do some pistols, such as Colt's Government Model .45 which dates from 1911.

For the record, S&W's model 19 and 686 use the same parts in the action except the 686 has flash-chrome plated hammers and triggers to match stainless steel, and in the 686 the hammer is larger.
