Modified Glocks

I found this on a police web site. Since I'm not a Glock owner are there any comments on this alteration?

SUMMARY: Gang members in California and Florida have been converting Glock pistols into FULLY-AUTOMATIC firing weapons.

DETAILS:
Gang members in Florida and California have been converting Glock pistols to have fully automatic firing capabilities. In regions of California, police are treating any Glock they encounter as a fully automatic firing weapon.

Conversion is fast and simple requiring no technical expertise. The Glock part involved is the ‘slide cover plate.’ The original Glock slide cover plate is made of polymer but the bootleg piece is made of steel. By simply switching these plates, which takes less than 15 seconds to do, the conversion is complete.

On the modified Glock the polymer edge of the trigger housing mechanism, which sits forward of the cover plate, has to be partially cut away. It is apparent without having to remove the slide plate that a significant amount of material has been cut away, leaving a large void visible through the notch.

Finding a Glock modified in this manner should be considered a clear indication that the weapon has been altered to function in a fully automatic mode.

Assume all gangs across the country are aware of this simple conversion and approach with extreme caution.

Doesn't the BATFE classify anything that is easily converted to full-auto as a machine gun? Now, I'm sure this article is 100% accurate (as all press releases are) so does that mean the BATFE will be checking 4473's and coming to confiscate my Glock?

BTW for $370 a German company will sell you a FA conversion piece for your Glock.

There is a website that give pics and gives blueprints on how to make it. The website version is actually twice the size of the original. But it's easily removable in 2 seconds compared to a true select fire version.

You can also look at the US patent website and get detailed drawings and instructions (basically) for turning a beretta full auto as well.

Honestly the beretta is easier to do it to.

Some gang banger does it and he is a victim of the evil gun company making a pistol that's "easily" converted. One of us does it and we go to club fed.

I think this is why ATF doesn't consider a Glock 17 a machinegun...
