I don't quite care for the smoothness of the wooden FOREARM on the Mossberg 500.

I'm thinking of something like drilling a couple holes on each side, and inserting a couple little stubby pieces of dowel rod, so that my finger grips the protrusion so I can more positively grip the "pump".

What do you think? Is there another way?

What about that adhesive-backed rough material they put on skateboards? I could just stick a couple pieces of that on.

Anyone familiar with this sort of intention?

They make ribbed forearms to solve that sort of problem. BUT, the use of skateboard tape is a very good one also. Used for lots of handgun applications. Is cheaper and can easily be taken off or more added if needed. Problem with taking it off is that you very well may take some finish or wood along with it when removed.

Okay, okay!

So here's what happened. The black adhesive back material is in the hardware store in rolls of 1 & 2 inches. They make this stuff to use on stairs.

I got 2" and trimmed down a couple of pieces to about 1 1/2" x 6".

Result. This stuff STICKS. I can probably remove it with Acetone, or by shooting the forearm with another shotgun [Take your pick. It's a free world!]

(1) I did not modify the stock gun
(2) The grip really is improved, with no hand slip. It's a very rough "friction" feel.
(3) It's pretty

I didn't like the forearm on my Mossberg either and couldn't find one that suit me so I made my own. A solid piece of Aluminum, a few hours on the lathe, a couple on the mill, some skate board tape, a new finish and I now have a forearm that fits my hand and fingers perfectly. It's easy to hold onto even if my hand is wet or oily. Keep yer powder dry, Mac.
