Modifying 3/8 dovetail sight to 5/16?

i have a revolver with a 5/16 dovetail sight but can only find 3/8 dovetail replacements. i wondered if the following is possible?

heres my theory:
since 3/8 = 6/16 and the dovetail is 5/16 can i shave a 1/16 off a 3/8 dovetail sight? seems like it might work?

any thoughts or has anyone done this? thanks for any help or suggestions.

Yes, it will work, if you do it right.

Depending on the sight design, you can take metal off the bottom of the sight dovetail with a flat file until it fits the guns dovetail.

Or, you can try to file one side off the sight dovetail angle with a triangle file.
However, that is a much harder row to hoe then taking it off the bottom.
