I've got a Browning A-Bolt in 300 win mag. My magazine will not accept OAL's anywhere near what would allow me to get the bullet close to the lands. From doing lots of searching on this and other sites it seems like this is a fairly common problem. The removable magazine itself is large enough inside but the factory has added a insert towards the front that looks like it can be modified to accept longer cartridges. So I guess I have 2 questions:
1. Has anyone modified a magazine on a Browning A-Bolt?
2. Are there any other magazines available that may have more room inside?

You might want to post this in the gunsmithing section. But the short answer is a gunsmith should either be able to modify the one you have or there may be a factory or aftermarket magazine that will handle the larger bullets. I would check into getting a second magazine from someplace like Brownell's before I looked at modifying a magazine. Especially so if it's a stamped steel magazine.

Hummmm. Went in and checked my A-Bolt. I haven't had a problem reaching the ledes with a bullet and fitting the Magazine too. Of course mine might be a bit different as it is a .30-06.

I definately agree with DaveInFloweryBranchGA though. Get a gunsmith's opinion and a spare Magazine first before you modify the one you have.:)
