Looking for recommendations/experiences with Custom Molded Earplugs. I currently usually use Howard Leight Electronic Earmuffs the majority of the time, but sometimes use Surefire
EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultras earplugs outdoors, they work well but aren't convenient to take in and out over and over. I usually use both earplugs and muffs when I shoot rifles/shotguns.

Looking to replace the earplugs with something custom fit/molded.

I have a set of NitroEars that I bought when the NRA meeting was in St. Louis a while back. 4 different amplification settings and I'm happy with them. I sometimes wear muffs if I'm just observing someone else else, but if I'm shooting I like my NitroEars. They use #13 hearing aid cells that I buy at Costco.

i used to get a set of them made when i would go to camp perry. i thought they were pricey but they worked great. i heard they do them at some gun shows, but i think quality may vary.

then over the winter, i went to the local audiologist and had a pair made. i didn't realize they were going to be friggin $160!!! the audiologist expressed shock and dismay that anyone would allow a non-audiologist to pack stuff into their ears. the plugs he made were much tighter fitting and noticeably blocked more sound (to my ears, roughly equivalent to doubling up with previous plugs and muffs). i really didn't like them as much until this past weekend when i was in a match that had a kinda ridiculous amount of people with giant brakes on the line rapid firing at moving targets etc. i was glad i had them then.

i'm sure you have several places that do hearing aids, etc in your town. they probably also do custom plugs.
just a thought, not a recommendation

My nitro ears, which are electronic and limit perceived sound to 82db, cost about $650 when new. Plugs are OK, but I really like being able to hear all range commands as well as birds etc.

My company got us some for work. From an outfit call DB Blocker. I don't know what they cost but they are of good quality IMO. Options for a radio or other electronic attachment are available.

I just have the plain jane ones.

They take some getting used to. There is a technique to learn to pop them in and out easily. And the first day or two my ears got a lttle bit sore. After that though, they are great.

I bought a pair of DeciBullz early this year, you nuke them in hot water and then mold to your outer ear. Replaceable foam pieces go into the ear canal. They do a great job of blocking noise but the biggest improvement I noticed is that they are extremely comfortable to wear for extended time periods. Comfortable enough that I don't feel like I need to remove them every chance I get. They were reasonably priced also, maybe $40-50?
