Hey, everybody.

I was surfing the interweb for a new backpack (my old one is incapable of carrying enough junk for school or anything else) and I found a rather nice one at Cheaper Than Dirt! However, it's one of those "MOLLE packs" whose sides are lined with those rows of loops for mounting stuff, which gave me a few questions:

1. How do MOLLE things attach to those loops?

2. Who sells reasonably priced (this is key. I'll be lugging Range junk and various stuff, not getting shot at. I don't need Blackhawk Industries-priced stuff) MOLLE gear?

3. Can accessories with the old ALICE-type metal clips (they're made of metal, and have a little gate that you slide up so you can attach it to whatever) attach to MOLLE gear? (I've got an old canteen-cover thing with two of those TA-50 metal clip-things)

4. Does anyone make a 20-round-magazine carrier? All the AR-15-type mag carriers hold 30-round mags, so they're too big to hold my nifty new Mini-14 20-rounders.

1. How do MOLLE things attach to those loops?

Pouches attach to PALS/MOLLE one of several ways. the most common are MALICE clips (what Tactical tailor, HSG and several other manufacturers use) and "the natick snap"(what SDS uses). The malice clip is a separate plastic doohicky that is woven through the loops on the pack or vest and the loops on the pouch and fastened to itself to keep the pocket on. it requires a tool to unhook, and is as solid as a sewn on pouch the MALICe clip is best when you're going to leave the pouch on the vest semipermanently. The natick snap is a little plastic reenforced tongue sewn on the pouch with an integral snap. you weave the tongue through the loops on the pouch and pack and snap the tongue to the pouch. it requires no tools and is almost as rigid as a sewn pouch. it's nice when you need to move stuff around a lot.

You can get molle equipment off of ebay, but it's usually of questionable origin (possibly stolen). www.lightfighter.com sells molle stuff, and some of it can be quite affordable, especially the Specialty defense systems stuff (supplier of the military).

Yes, and no. they'll attach, but not very well. you can replace the ALICE clips with MALICE clips if you need to attach alice gear to molle gear.

I use tactical tailor ar-15 3 magazine pouches, and they hols 20 round mini-14 magazines just fine. I have magpuls on mine, and only put two in each pouch so they're easier to extract.

You can find lots of information at the Lightfighter forum .

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! My eyes! My eyes! Change colors! :)

I heartily agree with www.lightfighter.com..... he has good gear and I've bought from him before. He used to be a paratrooper, the stuff on his site is No BS, "It works, that's why we stock it" stuff.

They make adaptors with a MOLLE "threading" side and a couple loops to accept ALICE clips.
