Okay, so as I'm reading through my regular blogs, I come across this entry at Snowflakes in Hell.
http://www.snowflakesinhell.com/2008/07/21/does-the-nra-get-a-free-billboard-too/

The actual story is here.
http://www.philly.com/philly/news/local/25644254.html

So why am I posting this? Because I took the initiative to go to Clear Channel's site http://www.clearchannel.com/ and send a comment voicing my dismay. Now, I made a small mistake that actually may have turned out to have positive results. The free billboards are in the Philly area, and when I entered market area, I entered mine- Tucson. Because Tucson has never given the Moms any free billboards, I just got off the phone with the regional director- he called me a little distressed about my message.

Turns out, he's a CCW permit holder and a life member of the NRA. Once we sorted out my mistake of Tucson vs. Philly, and I sent him the link to the news story so he didn't think I was a web-based conspiracy nut, he suggested we contact the NRA or anybody in the Philly area. He said this should be actionable and we could get results IF WE TAKE ACTION.

So, any members of the NRA or anyone based in Philadelphia- let's be sending some emails to both the NRA and the local branch of Clear Channel and POLITELY suggest that if the Mom's get free billboards, perhaps the NRA could get some love for the Eddie Eagle program. Let's drive home the point that education is more beneficial than prohibition

The message they are purveying is mixed. I for one would like fewer "illegal" guns on the streets. But it looks as if they want to achieve there goal by removing legal guns. I lived in the area, but have since escaped. I will contact a few friends and see if they will get involved.

Thanks for the heads up.

Ok first off I don't want this to turn into a debate or a hijack of the OP's origional forum, but something about the last post bothers me and it is the use of the term "illegal guns" No gun in this country is "illegal" per say the proper term would be Illegal ownership. The term illegal guns is a media buzz word used to demonize the tool not the person.

As far as the Op's post I agree if it is ok for them to give away free space to one group they should give the same to the opposing group.

Please provide some particulars so members can go directly to the site to argue for equal coverage of the issue.

Is it just the "contact us" or some other place to push?

Guys, let's not split hairs. And let's stay focused on the mission.

Mission: Contact the organization, and tell them that if they donate to that organization, they really should donate for the NRA's safety education program. Include a link to the Eddie Eagle stuff.

Let's drive home the point that education is more beneficial than prohibition.

Good point, hso. Sorry about that.

The page specifically for the Philadelphia area (remember, like I found out, we need to be region-specific) is right here. http://www.clearchanneloutdoor.com/markets/philadelphia.htm And it's Clear Channel Outdoor that handles the billboards.

The page I made contact through is right here. http://www.clearchanneloutdoor.com/contact/cf_outdoor.aspx

Remember, vitriol will get us nowhere and I was contacted by a pro 2nd Amendment individual. We just need to petition for equality on the issue.
