I bought 2 boxes of Monarch, 158gr, semi-jacketed hollow point .357mag ammo, today at Academy. 50 rounds for 14 bucks. Going to try some tomorrow morning to see how it does.

Headstamp indicates it is made by PRVI Partisan. I've used some of their rifle ammo in 7.62x54r, and it is good stuff.

These rounds I note have a very large metplat and a generous cavity. That is a good thing. I've yet to find posted numbers on velocities.
I am curious, has anyone here used this stuff? Any experience or feedback would be great.

Thanks.

Looks like I will answer myself.

This ammunition is stout out of a Ruger 6" gp100. You know you are shooting magnums. It is comparable to Aguila 158gr sjhp. No noticable blast but the sun was out and it was a beautiful morning.

Did 12 shots into cardboard @ 25 yards to see where they were landing. Offhand cantelope size grouping right down the centerline. POI was higher than my usual CCI Blazer powder puff ammo. No problem hitting a 12x6 hanging steel gong at 25 yards offhand. At 50 yards this became much more challenging, and there wasn't much ringing. :uhoh:

I say after 50 rounds this is good stuff so far. Not dirty and the round itself is impressive. I'd like to see what this stuff would do in gel.

Also found out that this ammo is sold under the Wolf Gold label.

I will buy and use more.
