The rotational wobbliness of my handguards on my AR-15 (I know it has no bearing on function, I just like a solid feeling rifle) have finally driven me crazy enough so I'm planning to get a free float handguard and one that creates the monolithic look. I'm looking at the Troy MRF-C.

First is this a good handguard?

Second are there any other FF handguards that give the monolithic look that I should look at? I like the Troy because it uses the stock barrel nut and I won't have to take off the front site post to mount it.

Most FF handguards have the monolithic-looking top rail, but most also use proprietary barrel nuts. The Troy TRX and Samson Evolution series modular rails are lightweight and use the factory barrel nut, but require the FSP to be replaced or cut down.

I can't speak for Mega or Aero's true monolithic uppers, but VLTOR's VIS upper system is pretty slick, and it comes in both quad rail and KeyMod.

Yes, it's a very good handguard. I have the MRF-CX on an AR-15. However, Troy Industries will never get another dime of my money after giving civilian gun owners the middle finger - http://www.thebangswitch.com/the-hiring-follies-of-troy-industries/.

Midwest Industries Gen-2 mounts without removing the FSB. Simply cut off the delta ring and use the stock bbl nut - the same way the Troy MRF mounts.

I'm not looking for a true monolith upper, at least not yet. :D

Yeah I'd already decided against the Troy because of the weight difference, the background is just an extra reason to look somewhere else. DD is probably an amazing product but out of my price range. I am probably gonna go with the MI Gen 2 two-piece.

I recently put on a MI super lightweight tube and am quite -- QUITE -- pleased with it.

Dealing with the front sight block is very, very easy, though my tube covers the gas block so require a bit more tinkering.
