Spent last weekend hunting Russian Boars, at Ted Nugents Sunrize Acres, in Jackson MI. As always this trip is more about meeting old friends as well as making new ones.
This years trip was extra special for a couple of reasons. First, we got to spend 2 days with none other than Ted himself. Though having just had knee surgery the week before, he didn't let that slow him down. LOL
The most special part of the weekend though, was being witness to one of our countries Wounded Warriors, getting the chance to hunt for the first time in many years.
Dustin, a Vet of Desert Storm, was given the anthrax pill before deployment to the sandbox. That pill caused him to contract Lou Gehrig's Disease. Now totaly confinded to a wheelchair he thought his hunting days were over. Thanks to Ted and my friend Pete Odland, creator of the liberator-a device to allow the handicapped to once again hunt, Dustins dream came true.
I'll let the Pics do most of the talking.

must be nice, ive always wanted to meet that guy. Mainly because he is very involved in two of my favorite things. Hunting and guitar. It is mighty awesome that people took the effort to make sure that that a disabled vet had a chance to do what he wanted to do.

I watched one of Ted's cable shows with a physically challenged veteran using the Liberator, and it was absolutely amazing how it worked. The scope is linked to a monitor and the rifle is controlled by a blow tube. The person gently blows or sucks on the tube to move the rifle into position while watching the monitor.

Hats off to Ted!!

The Liberator is an amazing piece of engineering. Pete has it set up so the hunter can use either a joystick, or the sip-n-puff. There are several different firearms, that can be set up on it, also.
Pete told me that he plans on building a couple of new ones and taking what he has learned and improving it. He plans on making it smaller, adding a larger screen, and possibly rigging it for a crossbow.
It's amazing what he has done with it already. Pete has put his heart and soul into this and my hats off to him.

That is a big pig! My hats off to all involved with our wounded vets. I'd heard of the Liberator and formed a different opinion than I now have after seeing how it's applied.
