Montana Ban on U.N. flag moves forward

Is there a problem with the UN flag? I've personally have never seen one flown except overseas and at the UN building.

Sounds like a stupid waste of legislation to me.

I like it

When I can vote for the officials in offices of the un then maybe I'll recognize their authority. Until then, they seem to have a lot more in common with two bit dictators than anyone I'd care to be in charge of things.

Let's see...

How much land could you get for $10k in MT. Western part of the state where all the scenery is.... about 5 square feet. Int he eastern half, about 20 sq miles. hehe.

Montana is a weird dichotomy. Liberals in MT, with few exceptions are very moderate, bordering on conservative. THe only thing that keeps them liberal is the old labor union power. Conservatives in the state are VERY conservative/libertarian. So, again, with few exceptions in Bozeman and Missoula, the state is solidly conservative. One of the sadder things is watching whacky libs from California moving to the state and spoiling the whole thing. When Commie ted turner bought the Circle C ranch, there was much gnashing of teeth and even a few threats of bodily harm. This forced Farmer Ted to skedaddle and let his minions run the ranch. He was about as welcome as an infected rat at a baseball game.

Montana is a great state, and should remain so. one day, I will move back up there and take over our ranch and live out my days, cleaning guns, hunting hippies and living la vida loca.

Yes, it may seem odd...

...to propose such legislation up here in my new home state, but have you ever read some of the bills other states consider these days? I bet we could find quite a few from California, New York, Massachusetts, and other liberal hotbeds that would make the UN flag bill look like the most sane piece of legislation since CCW was first proposed in Florida!

As Titan 6 pointed out, this bill does more than refusing to fly the UN flag; it is an attempt by the state of Montana to prevent UN edicts from being forcibly implimented in the state, which is more than just symbolism.

Sovereingty is more than a long word we had to remember for history class, it is a very real concept of the legitimacy of government. If we allow elitist overlords to appoint themselves as our masters, all of our rights are in jeapordy.

This bill attempts to keep the nutjobs in 'The Hague' from being able to literally pass judgement over us.

On a side note, after 9/11 there were government buildings in liberal stronholds all over the nation that refused to fly the American flag, even though they are required by law. I think that banning the UN flag from government facilities is much more than just symbolism - it reminds people who their legitimate government is.

That's interesting, I was looking at term investments, but maybe buying some land and renting it for hay wouldn't be a bad investment. Any of those missile silos still available?

Well

Oddly enough, if you get some land, the best crop to grow is Cell phone Towers. A friend of mine owns a ranch near Miles City that has 3 of em and he is making good coin on em.

Miles City is a nice area as well. Nice people, interesting terrain and some of the finest prairie poodle hunting anywhere on earth.

Bozeman was a great place, but it has grown so much and turned into a latte slurping, micro-brew guzzling, art house viewing bunch of metrosexuals.

For the true Montana experience, get out to the small towns, where they don't even know what an Espresso is.

As much as I hate the U.N. and like the Montana Leg., I love freedom more. I would have to be against this.

Dravur I'll request some literature come Monday. I like Montana, and while mountains and forests are nice, I'm also a prairie boy. Having land in Montana could be like 'Plan B' in case Liberals take over my province.

Tek, my understanding is that flying a flag isn't just a metaphor. My country's flag devolved from the Red Ensign, which was a flag representing a section of the British fleet. Eventually it was flown at forts, and then became a national flag (and then was replaced). Anyway, what flag you fly at a gov't building is no different then what flag you would fly on an aircraft carrier - it denotes loyalty. No one ought ever swear loyalty to the UN, for several reasons not the least of which being the UN is composed of many horrible countries, and it was simply supposed to be a meeting place where SOVEREIGN states would meet and talk **** out instead of launching nuclear missiles at each other. The UN was NOT supposed to acquire sovereignty of its own.
