What does it mean when it says HB 420 is "tabled" in the senate committee?

It means unless we can get the Senate as a whole to override the Judiciary committee, it is dead. Here is Marbut's message:

Blast HB 420 also

Dear MSSA Friends,

Rep. Roger Koopman points out that I should have also told you to ask your senator to support a motion to force HB 420, Montana-made guns, out of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Please let your senator know that we want HB 420 to see the light of day on the Senate floor. *This is a good bill, and costs the state nothing. *We'd at least like to see senators take a recorded vote on HB 420.

Thanks!

Maybe its time for mass open carry. -- LT

HB 340 fails

Dear MSSA Friends,

The motion on the Senate floor to extract HB 340 from being tabled in
the Senate Judiciary Committee failed by a vote of 19/29, mostly on a
party-line vote. *Two Republicans were missing - one in the hospital
(get will Dan) and one out-of-state at a funeral. *When the vote
roster becomes available, I believe we will find that three
Republicans and all Democrats voted against the motion.

If you want to listen to the audio of this effort, the file is at the
bottom of the page <http://www.marbut.com/hb340/>HERE.

The motion to blast HB 340 was made by Senator Jerry O'Neil
(R-Columbia Falls), and he asked to get the bill on the Senate floor
to amend it ONLY to effect Alaska Carry. *The Senate declined by
19/29 to go along.

Thanks loads for your help with HB 340.

.........................

Dear MSSA Friends,

We owe a huge vote of thanks to Rep. Jack Wells, the sponsor of HB
340, our Self Defense bill. *He worked hard and well on that bill.

A retired Air Force officer and Republican from Bozeman, Jack has
always "been there" for Montana gun owners. *Jack has always been
willing to carry the hard bills for MSSA. *HB 340 is not the first.

It would be great if you could shoot Jack a very brief (because he's
busy) email thanking him for his good work on behalf of Montana gun owners.

"Jack Wells" <[email protected]>

Thanks,

Maybe its time for mass open carry.

Yeah, I think so. ;)

Damn, this is a disappointment:(

I need to find the roll call and if my state senator voted against HB420, give him hell for the rest of his life. He is a businessman in the area. I asked him about this last spring before the election, and he claimed he didn't even know about the "Alaska carry" bill in the previous session two years ago.

Mine voted against it, but I expected no less. So did my represenative, but he is just following in the footsteps of his predecessor (who is now the state senator).

On another note, I would like to see the inability to carry in a restaurant that serves alcohol disappear. Of course, there aren't that many restaurants in the state I go to.

Western Montana, right ....???

Glacier county.

Most of the Californians are a county or two south or west. Glacier County is mostly Native and Hutterite types.

I wonder ... do the Hutterites vote? We have a lot of them around here, but I never thought about their effect or lack of effect on politics.

Also, I believe most of the senate districts include more than one county. At least around here they do - otherwise only 900 people would have their own senator.

Began Open Carry in town today

I have been open carrying on streets and trails around and in Manhattan the last week or two (and on rivers and mountain trails forever), but today I carried openly in the Three Forks hardware store and the Manhattan grocery store. No problems... everyone was friendly, though I did notice a couple of women gawking at me out the front window of the grocery store as I left, and I noticed a guy checking me out in Three Forks as I entered the store as he was leaving. :)

I was carrying a S&W .357 magnum in a standard leather holster. I need a better holster before I carry my Springfield 1911 .45 cocked and locked out in public. I expect to carry openly around BozAngeles on Friday.

People need to understand that this is not California, this is by God Montana.

I rarely even go to town at all, but I have open carried some in Billings. Almost always when filling up at gas stations, as that can be a dangerous place for carjackings. But I've also been into places like Big R without anyone even giving a second glance.

Biggest problem is how to "open carry" in the winter (IOW, about 9 months out of the year) in Carhart bibs and coat? Heck, I could carry a pair of Colt Walkers under there and no one would ever notice.

I am not too sure how open carry by a white guy would be received up here on the rez. I may have to ask the chief of police next time I see him.

But, there is always Kalispell and Great Falls.

bob

Today I did errands and shopping in BozAngeles, with my Springfield 1911 .45 in a holster on my belt, in plain sight.

I visited Costco, Walmart, the Community Food Co-Op, K-Mart (not a usual stop), Little Pinay oriental grocery, and the doctor's office to pick up medicine. There was no noticeable reaction, most probably didn't even notice, everyone was friendly.

But one neat thing did happen. I ran in to Rep. Jack Wells in Costco and we got to talking about HB 340 (he was the primary sponsor, and is my local Representative) and I pointed out the implement on my hip. He thought that was great, and called his wife over to show her. I said I guess this is what they would rather have than Alaska style concealed carry. He said yeah, and it is perfectly legal, and liked the idea.

Several other people have told me they regularly open carry in cities around Montana, with no hassles. You just have to stay out of banks, bars, gov't buildings, Post Awfuls, and skules.

Let's let it be known this is Montana!
