MErl, I'm just asking in re the OP: "These medical professionals could simply report you, your wife, son or daughter to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and have your name placed in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) if they believe you pose a “significant risk” to yourself or others."

yeah, the OP was cut from a NRAILA email and we never saw the bill text.

CO doesn't use the NICS system though and I'm guessing there are some fairly strict rules defining who can be placed in there. If there aren't that is a big hole that I'm surprised has not been exploited elsewhere.
No such rules apply to the CO version since we define it completely.

http://www.nraila.org/media/11159010/mental_health_bill.pdf is the link that the NRA sent out.

Thanks for the link. If this is an actual draft of the bill, it definitely says "national instant criminal background check system", not "state" or "Colorado". But as Diana DeGette proved, you don't need to know what you are doing to write laws.

The Colorado move shooter was a doper, so they legalize dope and and ban guns.

We are doomed.
