More LnL Curiosity. Primer Seating Issues

BTW: Red Kool -Aid still tastes just fine!

My AP runs as good as a progressive press can run, but something is wrong with his so I think him sending it back to Hornady is the right thing to do.
If there is a production problem with his press, they need to know about it.

Problems with manufacturing happens with all press companies but there shouldn't be so much flex in the shell plate that it won't seat a primer.
But I'm still hung up on why the nut on the primer pin assy isn't touching the frame of the press when the ram is clear down in prime mode. I think the primer punch assy is screwed up.
Sorry, but I'm a maintenance supervisor of 35 years + and something like this that just won't work right, drive me nuts.

Did you try measuring the distance from the hard stop at the bottom of the stroke to the frame, and then screw out the priming assy and see if the ram will go down any further?

Many people have given up on priming on their LNLs because either they can’t figure out how to time their “pawls” correctly or their drive hub needs to be shunned as had been discussed. After shimming, my LNL has very little plate tilt and primes all cases like a dream.

However, I have measured several different shell plates and they are all different. I think if you get a shell plate with the correct tolerance your press will work well right out of the box. However, if you change to a different caliber shell plate ( as in my case) the problems start to appear. I originally had Hornady send me a replacement 9mm plate and it was a different thickness then the first one I bought. I started measuring all the plates I had for various calibers and they were all different.

Once I shimmed my drive hub I had no issues from that point on. However, even though people are posting priming issues with the LNL on multiple forums, the Hornady tech guys won’t acknowledge it is an issue. The solution is very simple, either redesign their primer pin to have more travel or tighten up their manufacturing tolerance on their shell plates.

Update 9-8-2020
I received notification my press was being returned via FedEx. Tracking said it was to be delivered last Wednesday September 2nd by 8PM
No delivery Wednesday.
I tracked the package Thursday and it said out for delivery.
No delivery Thursday.
I called Friday morning and was told they would look in to it and get back to me.
Friday afternoon no call from FedEx so I called again and opened a claim.
Tuesday morning- Today, 9-8-20 called to track the claim and was told they tried to call me and my number was not a valid number. They would not verify my number I had to tell them what the number was. They confirmed it was indeed the number they have on file. Ass backwards but ok. I asked if they called and could not get me why didn't they email? Good question was the response. Still no idea where my package is. Still lists it as loaded on the truck for delivery last Wednesday. I have a feeling someone at FedEx saw it was from Hornady and by the weight figured it was a press and decided it was for them and not me.
I was told someone would get back to me by the end of the day today. HA! I want my press.
I tried to call Hornady last Friday and all of their phone numbers were down. I'll try again later. I want to know what they did to fix my problems- even if I never see that press again.

I really hate to say this, but where I live Fed EX is under the microscope for their employees stealing peoples packages and it got so bad that the Attorney General got 35 complaints in 30 days about the Kernersville, NC Fed Ex office.
So the AG is investigating it. Your post makes me wonder how wide spread that problem is. It's not a coincidence.
I hope that's not what happened to your press. I won't use FED EX for any shipping anymore for anything. Even at work.
I have had a lot of luck in the past going back on who shipped something to me and making them find it, when it doesn't show up
.
Keep trying to call Hornady and when you get them, ask them where your press is, and tell them they shipped it, they need to find it.
This is all really on them as the shipper, and even though it isn't their fault, they need to deal with it.
Don't think you can rely on any shipping insurance from FED Ex or UPS. It's worthless and all they will do is fight you on it so they don't have to pay.
