Some of you may have read my previous posts concerning the RAMI. I'm trying to convince myself this is the carry pistol for me.

My concerns are manually lowering the hammer because I don't want to carry C&L.

Here's a couple more questions:

1. Since the RAMI has a firing pin block, say I hold onto the hammer and press the trigger. Once I release the trigger, is the firing pin blocked again? If so, theoretically, you could hold the hammer, pull the trigger to free the hammer, then before letting go of the hammer, release the trigger. Since the block is in place, even if the hammer then fell, the round wouldn't fire. Does this make sense? Am I way off here?

2. I read on a forum where a dropped hammer from the half-cocked position will not be enough to fire the round. Not that I would consistently test this method, but does anyone know if this is true?

Thanks.

Carrying C&L is not something to be feared - it is something one just must get used to. IMO it is less dangerous than carrying with the hammer down on a chambered cartridge unless the weapon has a firing pin block as the CZ's and many others do.

C&L is a bit faster to bring to bear than having to draw and cock in my opinion but not much faster and with practice one can draw and cock very fast.

The issue of manually decocking has been fully discussed here on a number of different threads and there is very little common ground or love lost between those who believe in manual decocking and those that think a decocker is the way to go.

FWIW if the only issue you have with the RAMI is having to manually decock it then IMO it's not an issue. I've been manually decocking pistols since 1971 when the army taught me how to do it with a 1911. I've never had an ND nor an AD as a result. One just needs to be aware of the possibility and perform the procedure correctly without distraction to be safe. To be honest I even manually decock my Sig P220. The first time I used the decocker and saw how fast the hammer fell and having read of a number of failures of decockers it was manual decock for the Sig thereafter and I don't give a hoot what SigArms says about it (they say in their manual to decock using the decocker only).

Real men carry C&L and manually decock.... ;)

Best way to decock IMHO is to lay your off hand thumb between the hammer and the slide and press it down a bit with most of the force on the hammer. Squeeze the trigger so the hammer "pinches" your thumb. Release the trigger to re-engage the piring pin block, then slowly move your thumb up out from between the slide and hammer until the hammer stops at half cock.

The trick is the initial pressure on the hammer from your thumb where the "pre-load" takes up most of the spring force. Of course do it a few times on an empty gun first to get the hang of it.

With practice it can be done one handed with the strong hand thumb, just tilt the gun so it lays in your palm (like you were going to shoot reverse gansta style :) before moving the thumb around from a normal grip to get between the hammer and slide.
