How many people have no problem buying a gun of the same caliber of a different brand name. I am asking because I want a XD Springfield in a 9mm or .40 but have a Glock in 9mm, Baby Eagle in 9mm and a M & P in .40 Yes I am just trying to get all of you to help me justify another gun, but I was wondering how many of you do this and then never shoot the duplicate gun you like less? I have this problem with .22 handguns, I have three and tend to shoot one and always skip over the other two. I know a lot of you will say "can never have too many guns". I agree, although not when you do not get use out of them.

I have a dozen .357 magnum revolvers and I seldom shoot that cartridge anymore. I shoot the .38 spl cartridge in my .38 spl revolvers. So pay no mind to having several handguns chambered for the same cartridge.

It's cool if you want to standardize calibers, that way you can stock up on what you need without having tons of different guns with only one box of ammo for each. These days it's encouraged and some say it's more practical, also if you like a certain cartridge then why change for the sake of changing?

Shooting is only a small part of a gun's value. I buy guns for many reasons. Some are defensive tools, others are functional pieces of history, others are just oddities. All can be appreciated whether they're fired much or not.

That's my justification, anyway!

*waves hand* In fact, I have no problem buying a gun of the same caliber and brand name. You want that gun? That's all the justification you need. ;)
As for not getting use out of other guns, I can't help but think of what people have said to me now and then, albeit facetiously: "You only have two hands, why d'you have so many guns?" 'Cause, well, I just want them. :D

They all have different personalities and they all perform a little differently.
I relish the difference in design and engineering, ah the joys of being part of the gun culture.

I ahve two different 45acps, two 9mms, and five 44 Mags....but each gun
is for a different use and has a different character...however, two of the
44s are a matched pair of Vaqueros...so go figure...you want it...get it...
even if it becomes a safe queen...even safe queens need stroking now and then.....

There is a part of me that says I should have at least one gun of every caliber because if the SHTF we'll run out of ammo before we run out of guns so having something to shoot whatever you can scrounge could come in handy someday.

OTOH standardizing calibers for a given type (pistol/revolver) simplifies inventory and reloading.

As a collector, any gun is fair game for me have.

All 3 of my revolvers and a lever gun are all in 38/357. It makes it easire to stock ammo for what you shoot. I may change that now since I reload but if you have to buy your ammo having multipal guns in the same caliber is a plus IMO.

I try to stick with NATO and US Government round types due to cheaper ammo costs and availability so obviously it is impossible not to double up here and there. :D

Actually caliber only played a part in my desire to get ahold of how many versions of S&W 10MMs , otherwise its the model and finish variations I concentrate on .

I have an XD-40 service model and a Taurus Mil-Pro 40 compact. I bought the Mil-Pro when I got my CCW permit, as it is much easier to conceal, plus it has the stainless slide = more durable. The XD is my general purpose pistol, the Mil-Pro is mainly for carry.

If you can afford it, and you have room to properly store it, there is no negative issue with having as many as you want of whatever you want. Still, very few of us have ulimited money or unlimited storage space. It is there that decisions have to be made.

Let's see, I have 2 4" blue 357 magnum wheelguns, 6 9mm pistols, 4 45 acp pistols and a few 22 lr's -- variety is the spice of life my brother!

All of mine (9) are 45acp except my P3AT.

Keeps the old man from grabbing the wrong ammo box.:D

If you want it, buy it. I have no problem with multiple pistols in the same caliber. It makes it really easy to just pick a few guns and grab ammo quickly and not have to worry about whether or not I grabbed the wrong stuff.

yes I have a problem with more than one gun in a given caliber:banghead:

I've got two 9s, but they serve different purposes. One's pocket sized and one's a service gun with high cap mags.

I have three double action .357 magnum revolvers and one single action .357. I have three .38 specials. I don't care that I have 'em cause I LOVE .38/.357 caliber, always have, my favorite caliber and I'm a revolver guy. Hell, I may add more in the future if I get a wad of cash and find a deal on a 642 Smith or something. Why not?

I'm a handloader and have standardized on a few loads. I have dies for .380, .38/.357, 9mm (even a separate Dillon progressive set up for that one), .45ACP, and .45 Colt. I feel this covers anything I wanna do with a handgun. I desire no .40s, .357 Sigs, nothing like that. Maybe would add a .41 mag (like the caliber) or a 10mm (most powerful reasonable auto cartridge) if I get more into autos in the future, but nothing else is likely soon. So, I've got one .380 (may add a P3AT in my future), 2 .45 Colts (barrel for the Contender and a Blackhawk) in addition to the repetition in .38/.357. Sold 2 .45ACPs and only have one now, but it's a good one and I don't really desire another.

1) Bought a Ruger P97 when money was tight. Still in love with it.
2) Bought a Taurus PT145 for ccw. Still in love with it.
3) Bought a Taurus PT1911 for 1st 1911 and range gun. Still in love with it.
4) Started reloading .45
5) Bought a S&W 625 so don't chase as much brass. Still in love with it.

All get shot regularly, and am sure I'll eventually get more. Next will most likely be a Blackhawk Convertible .45/.45 Colt:D
