"According to Massad Ayoob, the noise from firing a firearm with that much power indoors can leave you stunned for a few seconds."

very good point

Heck, it does that outdoors.

Mike :)

PS I giggle like a little girl every time I see PTK's SBR'ed M-N.

abominable - before you use any of your guns for home defense, get some training! If you have to ask a question like this in the first place, you are ill equiped for a gunfight inside your home.

Though needless to say, if your neighbor across the street is getting robbed, you may want to pull out that scoped 91/30. =P You need power to go through 4 sheets of plywood/sheetrock, and an suv window. =P

needless to say though... i would take a 91/30 over not having anything any day.

I would use the .22 lever action with hollow points for the first 2 or 3 loads and then the remainder solids. Out of a rifle, the .22 isn't such a laughing matter.

I agree... the x54R is in the range of 30-06 power. This means that the bullet will keep going for a while after it cuts down the bad guy.

A lever action 22 rifle will still kill with less risk of ending up in a home down the road. Toss some Velocitors in there and watch the BG go limp fast.

Save the x54r for war... that is what it does best.

I would almost rather have a baseball bat for home defense instead of a Mosin. I can think of few rifles worse suited for that job. A rifle that long will be nearly impossible to maneuver with, and realistically you'll get one shot off. If you miss, you're dead if the bad guy has a gun also. Even if you hit him the bullet will keep going and probably exit your house and enter the neighbor's.

Put away $50 a week for a month and you can pick up a decent used 12 gauge pump. Then you'll have what is probably the best home defense gun there is.
