Has anyone ever seen one of these with the Hex reciever in a PU or PE sniper mode? got one of those Idea type things in my head and having a devil of a time of getting it out lol

:banghead:

PU and PE scopes were never put on hex receiver Mosins. That would be because the scopes were created after they stopped producing hex receivers and sniper rifles were made only from brand-new guns at the factory.

I think Finns did have a sniper on a hex receiver, but Finn snipers are exceedingly rare.

One of the importers took a batch of Finnish 91/30's from Tikka, most of which have the hex receiver, and turned them into PU snipers. To be fair they weren't sold initially as anything other than modified Finns. But then Enemy at the Gates came out and dishonest owners started to sell them as true Russian snipers.

Also, keep in mind that USSR snipers aren't especially rare. You can find decommissioned snipers pretty easily for only slightly more than regular 91/30's. The Soviets churned them out. There are many Finnish subtypes that are far more rare on the scale of things. True Finnish snipers are probably the rarest of all Mosins. Only a handful of various types exist, and AFAIK none were ever released into the general surplus pool. They're in the hands of Finns or the uber collectors who have the wherewithall to get them directly from Finland. Finnish snipers tended to use iron sights, as the optics of the time did poorly in the extreme climate.

Here's a complete article about how to spot a fake

Thanks everyone. Main reason I ask is for the fact that the 91/30 I purchased actually surprised me in it's accuracy. Guy at the range had a setup where you pretty much didn't touch the rifle... Forget the proper term for it. Using some Czech Surplus it managed quarter sized groupings. I'd been contemplating doing some work to my own rifle, but seeing everything and the thought of doing something to screw it up, actually made me rethink. Better off buying a round reciever one and screwing it up lol

Thanks again
