I just picked up a Mosin M27 at a divorce sale. It has the popsickle front, no buttstock hole or patch, what looks like an awsome barrell from what I can see with a flashlight. The thing that strikes me as kind of strange is the serial #s on the bolt and reciver are the same and the bolt doesn't have the guides or wings or whatever you call them. The date is 1934 with the T in a diamond, and a D and an F stamped nearby. Is it possible this was never used? I know y'all need pix,but my internet is crawling right now and I accidently stopped the upload to phot bucket so the pix are not available yet.

It's a Tikka manufactured rifle from Finland. The "guide" piece you're talking about is the bolt head, and that shouldn't be missing. Is it one of the pieces shown below that's missing?

The gun is well used, as you can tell from the stock, and most Mosins were used anyways. You'd be hard pressed to find one that hasn't been issued at some point in time.
 
I guess I'm looking for some more info about this rifle. Is it considered a collectable, or a shooter? Should I replace the stock, or does it look like I can improve upon it? How much TLC does it look like it needs and is it worth the $100.00 I paid for it? Any input would be appreciated as this is my first Mosin.:confused:

You got a great deal for $100 for an M27!!!!
They are collectable but It would not hurt to put a couple rounds through it, if shooting corrosive ammo (surplus) make sure to clean/oil the rifle properly before putting it away or it will rust.
Leave the stock alone as it's an M27 stock and there's nothing you can do to improve upon it.
 
$100 for a m27 now thats a deal. i also bought a m27 just recently(last week) and i was told they can sell for around $300 to a collector if in good condition. if it doesn't have the wings it losses a little value.for the stock just sand it a little and refinish it and it will look great. if you clean it after shooting it can be very reliable and is quite accurate with silver bear ammo. now if you wan some historic info on the rifle just read up on the winter and continuation war. there is a fair chance your rifle was used to take down russians and germans.
 
It may be a collectible (though I wouldn't consider it one) but it has been fired...a lot...and it certainly won't hurt to fire it...a lot more. :D

M/27's are collectable and you got a real good deal. Finnish versions of the Mosin Nagant tend to be much more accurate than their Russian counterparts. Your m-27 looks to be in good shape. Especially when you consider that gun may have found in two or three wars. Winter War, Continuation War, etc. If the bore is in good shape take it to the range and have some fun. Then report back on how she shoots.
 
Am I the only one that notice that cosmoline encrusted commie cold war POS laying on an American flag?
