I am thinking about getting a Mosin-Nagant 1891/30 and I am not sure what ammo to get. I have seen 7.62x54, 7.62x54r, 7.62nagant. Since they are listed seperatly I assume they are different, but I don't know for sure. Is 7.62x54r the only one that works in a Mosin-Nagant 91/30? What about the M44, does it use the 7.62x54r ammo as well?

7.62x54 is just 7.62x54R when someone forgot to put on "R" on the tag. It's the same stuff. 7.62x53R is the Finnish version of 54R. It uses very slightly shorter brass and is often loaded with D-166 style .308" bullets, but it will also shoot fine out of any Mosin-Nagant. NAGANT ammunition is for the handgun, and will not work. But there's no way you'd confuse the two. All Soviet Mosin-Nagants and all D-chamber Finns can use standard 7.62x54R unless they'e been hacked and changed by Bubba or Bannermans.

Thanks Cosmoline for answering both questions. I just got my C&R and some cash is on the way. I am ready to by my first mosin.
Thanks again.
