My dad is concerned about shooting modern ammo in an old M91

Is his concern warranted or is it fine to shoot modern ammo out of a Mosin?

The ammo in question is Winchester white box 220 soft point.

This is the rifle I would be shooting it through.

You're fine, assuming the gun is in good condition.

As long as nothing is cracked or broken, I don't see why not. It was built as strong as any other bolt action military rifle of the time.

You could always have a gunsmith give it a look, check the headspace, etc. In general, modern ammunition from US companies for old weapons or those of uncertain quality control tends to me watered-down rather than hotter than the original surplus. If it works with surplus, it would probably be fine with the Win.

No issues, the military surplus is probably loaded hotter than the Winchester stuff.

Good Day,
It is a good idea to wear a pair of safety glasses when shooting; especially, with old surplus, where a case might split and release hot gasses back through the bolt. Clean up from shooting surplus with hot water and dish soap. Enjoy your MN.

Seriously a really good idea as I have had it happen more than once.
