I'm looking for a scope for my Mosin that would look good on an old rifle. I'd hate to put some new aluminum creature with an iluminated reticle on a nice, classic rifle.
also, I'd really hate to drill into the reciever to mount it. anybody have any experience with the scout mount, the one that replaces the rear sight?
lastly, I'd like to not pay more then I paid for the rifle($120.00). preferably a whole lot less.
any ideas?

I have a Darrel's mount on mine, and it works well. I tried one of the cheap-o mounts off eBay, and it bent (which was amazing, since it's a decent chunk of metal).

I also have a black NCStar 4x pistol scope on it. It looks just fine, as the black matches it.

The picture of it in my sig is not accurate, that was with the junk mount and a free junk scope from a friend.

I also have two Mosin Nagant rifles....

with Darrell scout mounts. I have the first version. The current version has improvements. Exactly what they are, I don't know as I don't have one. Good mounts though. I have Burris pistol scopes mounted....chris3

bump, just wanted to see if there were any more ideas. mabye one of those old scopes where the crosshairs move when you adjust it? anyone know where to find one?

Hello. I have a repro PE setup on my 91/30. I got it off e-bay(if it is alright to mention that site). It requires no drilling or tapping. It has a band attached on one side of the mount and then the band wraps underneath the receiver to attach to the other side of the mount. Just a small amount of wood needs to be shaved under the receiver (you will never see it). You can put any modern 1 inch tubed scope on it or you can search for a period looking scope. This set-up looks great and works good. The scope is mounted directly over the bolt. You will need a bent bolt to set it up to look like a PE mount or the rail can be turned the other way in order to turn it into the scout scope configuration ( no bent bolt required for this set-up). The mount runs $80 plus shipping. It looks better than the scout scope set-up IMO.

nice looking set up fletcher. do you have a new mount now? does it go on easy?

Sorry, I never checked back in on this thread. The current setup is here:

A Darrel's mount goes on easily enough. Just take out part of the rear sight and it slips right in (some adjustment required).
