Mosin Nagant Archangel Build Pictures

Mosin Nagant hex receiver mated with Promags Arch Angel stock. The build was a bit more involved that I initially thought.. but I suppose thats how it goes. Timney Trigger, Cerakoted Black and sniper gray, shimmed receiver to stock, cut/turn down bolt, and a Minox ZA5 scope. I've since fired about 40 rounds through it of Russian and Bulgarian surplus. I've only tested the accuracy to 36 yards but it was on target. I think it should be at least a 1.5 MOA gun with my Prvi ammo. Prior to the build I had no problem hitting targets at 50 yards with irons.

I have a stone stock M39 Mosin Nagant that shoots under one inch groups at 100 meters with Privi ammo. I have a stock 91/30 rebuilt by the Finns that shoots one inch groups all day long. Seems like alot of money spent to get 1.5 inch groups.......chris3

I don't think that was the point. The OP wanted to modernize a Mosin and did a great job. I do that to my guns all of the time, too. New furniture, bedding actions, retooling...it's just a lot of fun. Every man needs a hobby.

Looks good but I feel the barrel is waaaay to long. I'd cut it down to 20" and do an 11 degree target crown. I would have also removed the rear site base and steel bedded the stock.

Thanks for the compliments. Yeah I wanted to turn an already accurate mosin into an even more accurate gun.. Gun was the gun owners hand picked Mosin out of the lot. At 50 yards in its original furniture it shot under 4x4 inch targets no problem. At 36 yards with the ArchAngel each surplus bullet was right next to or touching the next bullet hole. I wanted a system with inexpensive readily available ammo, magazine fed, and mounted rifle scope not a pistol scope on the dove tail. Didnt want to have to load 1 round at a time after adding my rifle scope mount.... 7.62x54r stayed cheap and available through this anti-gun political climate while 5.56 and some others have been difficult to obtain at normal prices. Also if you guys are looking to add this stock to your Mosin... I have another detailed older thread that points out issues you might come across during the build.

tndxshooter- I left the dovetail rear site and the total length alone.. incase I wanted to bring it convert it back to original. But I still may cut the barrel down, thread it, and re-crown it. Going to shoot it awhile like this and get a good feel.. See how well she shoots at a 100 yards..


Outlaw Man- The ArchAngel magazines work fairly well.. The magazine design is by no means optimal but suits my needs and still fairly reliable. If you insert the magazine with the bolt in the open position, it will not strip a round into the chamber. The bolt has to be in locked in the forward position. Other than that they work fine. No magazine play with an inserted magazine. Tight fit.

Total cost in parts-
$130 for the Hex Mosin m91/30
$199 for the ArchAngel and Promag threw in a few extra magazines
$90 for Timney trigger (awesome trigger)
$35 for the ATI Rifle scope mount and turn down bolt
$39 for Sniper Gray cerakote (friend had black cerakote for me to use on the bolt group)
$399 for the Minox ZA5 scope (Awesome scope for the price)
$29 leupold scope rings.

Add another 30-40 bucks in shipping charges.

So $530 dollars in this build plus the $428 into the scope.

I've been thinking I'd like to get a cheap T53, get it cerakoted black, throw it in one of those stocks, and put one of the better scout scope mounts on it. Essentially a poor man's Ruger GSR. 2" groups at 100 yards with surplus is all the accuracy I'd be concerned about getting.
