I'm looking at M44s and was wondering what, if any difference there is between different countries of manufacture, mainly Russian and Polish. Is there a big difference if any in accuracy, fit & finish, etc. I had a good deal on a Polish 1953 but someone else bought it right before I was going to order it... Is one better than the other or is one cheaper generally? Also if you know of any good deals right now they would be much appreciated. Thanks.

All communist guns are the same, except the chinese ones those are always junk, but otherwise all the same mainly because when russia was done building the m44s they sent the equipment to poland, hungary, etc.

Not all Chinese guns are junk, but majority have fit & finish that leaves something to be desired.

M44's are kinda pricy now compared to 91/30's. Good luck on finding an economical one.

Some countrys built their rifles to higher standards that the ones who were litterally fighting a war with in the country....depends on When, quite often. Polish post war are pretty nice, yessir!

They are awesome i have had a handful of both Hungarian and Russian m44 and to tell you the truth the biggest difference is the quality of the stock.Ive never had a Polish but ive heard they are like the Hungarians, The Hungarian ones have a thicker stock as compared to the Russians ive had....both are exceptional guns and great noise makers......i got one for sale here, perfect for you with a slip on recoil pad and everything......http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=249552579

priced competitively at 159.99

Mines a Russian M 44 1946 that has a TRZ in the buttstock. Said to be from Yugo rearsenal. I got it with wax wrap and rope tied around it. The bore is new. THe trigger is very light and crisp. It shoots 2 inch grps at 100 yds using Albanian surplus. I would never part with this gem of a commie gun. Simplicity and ruggedness rolled in one.

I have a Chinese M44 and it is cherry. Fit and finish are excellent. The trigger is one of the best I've found on a surplus rife.

If you go with the M44 be aware that recoil is harsh. The rubber nagant butt pad offered by Tickbite sales tames it pretty good.

A Russian M44 may have seen service, neglect, or abuse and have a dark or pitted bore.

M44's from other countries should be in better shape.

I'm aware of no problems with Chinese Mosin Nagants, and Chinese firearm hate is inappropriate for this thread.

There is not too much of a difference between the countries of manufacture. Tovarish Polski make same gun as Tovarish Rushka.

The CHinese M 44s were probably used during the Vietnam War and were not refurbished by the CHicoms since they were swtiching to SKSs. Thus many are in poor shape. Many of them were exported to USA together with many in like new conditions so it s a luck of the draw to find one in excellent conditon.

Mine does about minute of half-pie-plate when I do my part. I blame it on the counter-bore and the fit of the stock. I haven't tried to accurize it. There's a lot of ways to do this, just never tried myself.

IF you really want an M44,keep an eye of for a nice Polish one.
A boat load came in years ago, most all new/unissued. They can be found,
yet have a higher price then the run of the mill Russian units.

stay away from counterbores, use a flashlight on the muzzle end and if a bullet swallows the whole thing, dont buy it.
