Hello all,

I have recently picked up a 1942 mosin nagant. I currently have a scope mount ordered for it. the mount requires the receiver to be drilled and tapped....now....I have never done this and do not feel confident enough to. so, i need some advise. How do i go about getting it mounted? gunsmith? machine shop? or what? and if that is the case does anybody know of the place to take it to in SC? I NEED SOME HELP!?!? :uhoh:

Thanks David

That's what gunsmiths are for. The mount must be attached such that when the scope is mounted, it is aligned with the bore.

If over the back of the receiver you will need a bent bolt mod in order to be able to rotate the bolt with the scope on.

Mount the scope as low as possible.

The tri rail replaces the leaf of the rear sight, and mounts the scope in a scout configuration forward of the bolt. This does not require having your hold handle modified in any way, but does require a long eye relief scope.

I have a similar (single rail) mount on my M-44 and my scope has 14.5" of eye relief. Typical rifle scopes have about 5" of eye relief. Mount one on your Mosin and you'll only see a black blur through your scope.

the mount in question and those like it work okay. If you do go that route, it's a non-permanent alteration, which is good from a collectors point of view. The massive recoil of the Mosin Nagant will loosen the mount within a few shots, so apply some loc-tite to the threads of the screws, and on the scope rings. I use the red loc-tite, but blue works very well also.
