First of all my buddy just got me into the Mosin Nagant craze (should be here this week).

But on to the main point of this thread...the Mosin Nagant stock.

My buddy just replaced both of his Nagants with synthetic stocks and he was about to throw away the old stocks. Luckily I got to them before he tossed them. I have no idea the manufacture on these or what model of the Nagant they came from.

My question is there any worth in refinishing these up and selling them? I took them just as a project and it seemed like a silly idea to just throw a stock away.

I don't care how cheap the guns are...it would be a shame to just throw them away. Probably not worth much to resell right now. I'd just store them away and you never know when they might come in handy. You might get a great deal on a rifle with a broken stock, you might break a stock, etc.

A friend of mine turned one into a lamp.

I turned mine into a "prop" gun for halloween. Next year I'm gonna add something so it will shoot the streamer poppers.

Um the systhetic, well, they are what they are and not so great as far as stocks go
only thing they have going for them is the recoil pad,

as for the stock, you can sell them for $20 or $30 do they have the cleaning rod?

DO NOT REFINISH THEM....if you want a good price. Go to a Mosin Nagant Forum and look. If a collector wants one, he will want it as is, and its more valuable to a collector than most any.

Man, Id buy em, if you have the bands and cleaning rods..........how much you looking for?

No I don't have the bands. He already tossed those. I don't believe his came with the cleaning rod either. I'll wait on doing anything to these (if I do at all) until my MN gets here. Then I will have 3 stocks to pick from.

Ditto with Caribou, do not refinish them, collectors will have naught to do with them if refinished.

As already stated, you have late or post way stocks. You can tell this by the pressed in sling slot Escutcheons. Pre war stocks had screwed on metal Escutcheons. War time stocks han no metal Escutcheons at the rear and only a bottom liner in the front.
You need to look at the rear of the action area to see it the stock is for an early step receiver or later round receiver.
They are also worth more to collectors in the condition they are in. $30 to $40.

Stocks

I am interested in laminated stock set that are usable to make a hunting rifle with. I don't freak over the value but respect those who do. If someone has a laminated set already cut, but NOT broken, I might be interested sometime.

If the stock match's the gun I would leave them as it is. There a lot of Mosin Nagants out there that don't match at all so therefore the stock has no real value. If guilt comes into play then go buy one for $20 and have at it. Some of those stocks can be made into a nice stock. Others are crappy wood and won't finish nicely.

Mosin parts are worth some money. Look on evilbay or gunbroker. It's pure stupidity to throw away those parts... or refinish a stock.

I agree, don't throw it away nor would I refinish it either but keep it as-is or sell it to collectors. As far as your Bubba buddy, here's the way I (and a lot of other collectors will as well) look at things. Original condition and values can go pretty high. Try to sell me anything without original parts (in this instance a plastic stock) I won't care how much money you dumped into the money pit, my offer is going to be 20 bucks for the bubba gun since it's historical value is destroyed. Think Mosin-Nagants are cheap these days and are good canditates for bubba jobs, keep in mind that once upon a time, Mausers, Krags and Springfield were also considered good candidates for chopping up. What's the price on an original these days? Again, my offer for $20 for a chopped up Krag, Mauser or Springfield also applies here as well. Just sayin'.

Dog collar stock hardware

I'm looking for the dog collar sling hardware for both ends of my Mosin stock. The ones on my stock are badly rusted. I need the four metal plates w/slots and screws. Do not want any with accompanying rust. Any suggestions?
