I just bought my first Mosin nagant 91/30 and the gun shoots great 3 inch groups at 100 meters however I am having a problem with extracting almist every shell. The casings are not split but do seem to be stretched at the neck. any thought on the hard to eject problem or is this just how the mosins are?

many mosins can get sticky chambers. take a 20 gauge shotgun brush and attache it to a power drill and clean out the chamber to ensure theres no cosmoline in there. another fix is to avoid shooting laquered ammo. ( steel wolf type)

and you may want to headspace the rifle. as it may not be the shell stickign as much as the bolt

One thought comes to mind

There is a large chance it is the ammo. Wouldn't be shooting lacquer coated steel case ammo would you? It is said to be cured by extensive cleaning of the rifle chamber.

Being a bit difficult to cycle is normal for the Mosin. The bolt has to really be manhandled to lock and unlock it compared to Mausers and other bolt guns. The Mosin bolt was designed to be simple to manufacture and very reliable, but not necessarily easy to cycle. But once you've got the handled pointed straight up and the bolt fully unlocked, it should eject and load the next cartridge without too much effort. Then you have to manhandle the bolt into the closed and locked position.

I agree that it is either dirty chamber (cosmoline) or your ammo. I have an M38 and I have always been very pleased with "Olympic" brand 7.62x54. Great price & great results.

ON ANOTHER NOTE:
Does anyone know how to get a decent power scope (anywhere from 16x upwards of 24x) to mount on a Mosin Nagant without sending my rifle to a gunsmith? I have tried the rails that attach to the rear sight assembly, but all the (true) long eye relief scopes that I have found, are no more than 8 power. Let's face it the 7.62x54 round deserves better than that. PLEASE HELP!

that kind of magnification is way more than you will need or can use with a Mosin. any mount that doesnt require smith work will not hold true zero at those kind of magnifications. also most mosins are not that consistant to do any long range work

so to asnwer your question, no i dont know of any suitable mounts.

Here is a good
article on how to take care of mosin sticky bolt.

As mentioned above, laquer ammo can be a problem. Most copper washed ammunition wont stick in a clean chamber, unless you have a burr.

Spiggy uses a dragunov style POSP side mount.

Is it a good solution? maybe.

Does it work work? most definitely
