I have two myself. which do you like best. that is something only you can answer. that is the difference. I love shooting mine and now you can buy a lot of aftermarket parts and add ons for them. one of the ones I have is pretty accurate. not shot it in a while. plan on rebarreling one and building a bench stock foe=r it. they are very easy to work on. my advise is to get it. they are fun to shoot. good for huntin also. good luck

Hard to evaluate from pictures...do they mention any matching numbers??
Personally, from an aesthetic point of view I woudl go for the round receiver (which is the newest)
However I would tend to avoid any rifle produced during war time, let's say anything past 1940...rough milling marks in the receiver and overall worse crasftmanship.

I saw that the round receiver one (priced $79.95) has been built in 1944....the finishing seems very good...

I just bought one myself and get to pick it up Friday. I have shot them a few times and they are a blast, literally, I have never heard something as loud!

As long as I'm here I may as well ask, the ammo pouch, sling and stuff that's clothe/leather is covered in cosmo. How do you get that s**t off those things? is there one better way that you have found?(I got lucky, no cosmo on the rifle, just everything else haha)

The hex receiver is the older of the two and made before WWII (The Great Patriotic War, in Russia). The one with the round barrel is clearly stamped '44 from Izhevsk and is war-time production (think fast and furious). Likely, the older rifle will be better crafted, although the later rifle design was improved in places. AIM says that they were both rearsenaled so the bore shouldn't be a big problem in either.

What's curious to me, is that I thought the Soviets had ditched the 91/30 in '44 in favor of the M44 carbine. Maybe not. Maybe something you'll want to research >> http://7.62x54r.net

Either way, the triggers will likely be long and gritty but can be fixed pretty easily with some brass shims. For my money, I'd get the $89.95 one.
