Thanks, Cosmoline. Always good to see someone posting whom I know from multiple boards.

Luckily I have at least 3,000 rounds of the stuff laying around in air conditioned closets. But I could always use a few thousand more.

If you are in the Houston, Tx area or surrounding, Republic Arms has lots of
54R. I believe tins of 500 or 1000 ( not sure) for $149

I started getting concerned when I read this. I just called up SoG and got 1750 rounds of their surplus. They didn't know the country of origin, but they said it's 1950's manufacture and comes in 250 round sealed cans. It worked out to 18 cents per round shipped.

If BATFE is blocking imports then it's time to crank up the 'ole reloading press...

You *did* save your brass?

Is there much boxer brass out there:what:

Called a few more places today.....
-----------------------------------------------

Called Classic Arms today to order a case of the Bulgarian, and was told they are out and don't know when the next shipment will be in.
Also called Republic Arms (Texas) and was told by the person answering the phone that he had less thn 100 rds in the store. I had already called and placed an order for 3 tins of 250 each. I think I may call back to increase my order. I really didn't understand how fast this stuff was disappearing.
Just goes to show, when large cal ammo is dirt cheap-Buy it, and buy lots of it!
I'm off to search some more.

Judaspriest SAVE THAT BRASS!

There are methods where it can be reloaded with boxer!
This applies to Swiss 7.5x55 which is incredibly stout but I suspect it can be a starting point for any berdan ammo.

The person who has done this says it shoots fair but the weather is not good for him just now. He found a tool that tightens up loose primer pockets that works better than his original method and it matches the boxer size exactly.

Buy some brass cased stuff. My experience is that Mosins aren't hard on brass and they are bolt actions so you can actually find the empties. Time to start reloading. Maybe the demand for .311 bullets will make .303 shooters happy too.

Offthepaper, SoG said they still had some in the back when I ordered mine today. I asked how much, and they said "quite a bit".

Yes, I've already placed an order with them. 250 rd tins for $39.95 plus s/h. I ordered 6 tins. A bit more than I thought I would pay, but I figure better to pay more now, than be completely without in the near future.

dstorm paints a bleak picture for the future of milsurps with the govt holding the form 6's hostage.:fire::cuss: He seems to have a better knowledge of the inner working of our "public servants" than most.

I gotta tell you,
All this info is making me rethink my next rifle purchase. I've been trying to decide between a Yugo UF AK or a Saiga AK, both of which I was expecting to commit to the 7.62x39 caliber. But after hearing about the imported ammo situation (almost scarey), I'm starting to lean more toward the Saiga, but chambered in .223 since that is a domestic produced round. I would love to have the Yugo UF for it's compactness (and they're cool;)), but if I'm going to be unable to feed the new baby.....maybe I'd be better off with the .223 Saiga.
What do you guys think?

They can only ban mil surp ammo so Wolf and Brown Bear are safe b/c they are just cheap producers no different then Winchester if it was in Russia and had little to no quality control. Since all the real mil surp 7.62x39mm dried up long ago you don't have to worry about a lack of availablity in the future as long as Wolf and others continue to produce.
