I have enjoyed shooting my M38 and M27. The Finn is pretty acurite, but today I finally shot my K31. Man what a gun. I have a bunch of modern hunting rifles, but I think that K31 will be my primary deer slayer this year. I have read on THR about the great trigger and accuracy, but actually shooting this Swiss beauty has really opened my eyes. For anyone that likes MilSurp, I would highly reccomend picking up a K31 if you have a chance.

Haha send those Mosins over my way then... I'll keep the dust off 'em.

How much does it cost to shoot the 7.5? Not too familiar with the K31 in general, but it seems that any ammo that is not in high demand will be rather expensive.

After shooting 2 off the shelf brands of 7.5,they weren't even close
to what GP11 would do in my rifle.
Run with the mil. surp. ammo.

I know what you mean. I haven't fired a Mosin Nagant in four years or more. My K31s are the rifles I spend most time focusing on. The K31 is light years ahead of the Mosin with respect to quality of workmanship and accuracy.

As a reloader ammunition is no problem. If you are already using .308" bullets you just need brass and dies to load 7.5 Swiss. You don't have to mess around looking for odd oversize (.310-312" or whatever) bullets for the 7.62 X54R and end up with a less accurate (excluding the Finns) rifle.

If I could go back in time when the K31 was less than $125 I would have never even messed with the Mosin.

I have only one of half a dozen or so Mosins (91/30's, an M38 and an M39) left since I discovered the K-31's. Even firing handloads through my Mosin's, they didn't even come close to the K-31's firing GP-11 milsurp ammo. As a handloader I can say without hesitation that the GP-11 ammunition is as accurate as my most carefully crafted handloads using match bullets. But, the GP-11's 174 gr. bullet at 2540 fps is a teeny bit much for an 80 round High Power match..

I have a 600 yd. range here at my house and I tried my "match" K-31, with it's aperture front and rear sights, using GP-11 at that range on the 36" target. It took a me a bit to get the wind doped and get 10 shots on the target, but here's what she did firing prone, without a rest:

In our local competitions I fire cast bullet loads exclusively and the ol' girl has fired same pretty impressive targets:

All these were fired in competition in the Prone Rapid fire stage:

Another 100 yard-er fired here at the house with my cast bullet load:

Here's a 100 yd. target fired from the bench with GP-11:

For its quality the GP-11 really isn't all that expensive at about 50¢ per round. (That's only $10 per 20 rounds)

I bought all the gear to reload for my K31, but ... as long as GP11 is available at anything like a reasonable price, it's almost not worth the bother.

You'll have to fight me for those Mosins! Or we could split them? :p

Comparing a K31 to a Mosin is like comparing a Rolex to a Timex. :D

I have both and let's just say the mosin gets left behind in the safe a lot more lately.
