So this is my first post/thread here at THR, I've been I long time lurker but for the first time ever I think I have an issue that I couldn't find an answer to anywhere else so I felt the need to ask around for help.

I just bought a Western Auto Supply Co Revelation R310AB 12 gauge, which as far as I can tell is a rebranded Mossberg 500. And it seems to have an odd ejection issue. If I rack the gun at a slow to moderate speed it will eject a shell just fine. But when I rack it fast and with purpose (as most 500's I've owned prefer) it won't eject the shell. It'll end up either laying on the shell elevator or on top of the next shell to be chambered.

Since I bought it used at a pawn shop I went through and scrubbed it down inside and out and made sure it was as clean as possible. I've tried using dummy shells at the house after the range trip and no amount of cleaning or tinkering has helped to change the issue. I compared both the ejector and the extractors/bolt assembly to a known functioning 500 but they seem to look identical without excessive wear on any of the parts. Any ideas?

Also as a side question, it seems as though the forend won't pull free of the receiver either. If I apply slight pressure it feels like it's under some kind of spring tension that's keeping it in the receiver? Which is unlike any 500 I've ever disassembled as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm not sure where to go from here to diagnose the issue.

check the extractor tension see if they feel similar to the known good bolt...id actually swap the known good bolt in and cycle it a few times see if that cures the issue, if so its most likely extractor tension isnt high enough.....if you still have issues with the known good bolt, its likely your ejector isnt sticking out far enough and when you rack fast the shell skips over it. I had mine do that once after i messed with the ejector to make it smoother to pump.

As for the forarm sticking check that the arms arnt sticking on anything on the way out, i found on one 500 that you needed to kinda wiggle them or they would bind and not come out easily.

I'm headed back out to the range tomorrow so I'll bring a second bolt to compare and swap and see if that does the trick. I got the thing for cheap enough that even if I need to get another bolt it'll still be worth what I've got in it.

As for the forend I've done all kinds of wiggling and fiddling to try to get it off but it definitely has some kind of spring tension on it. If I pull it away from the receiver it will kinda spring back if I let it go. I don't know if it makes a difference but after a little research I found out is a model 500AB which had the inner tube to the forend with the action arms attached to that and the wooden bit sliding over it with a spanner nut instead of the the style that has the pivoting action arms that go direct to the synthetic forend.

Either way it's late enough that tinkering tired is getting to be a bad idea, the last thing I need is to lose any pins or screws. Thanks for the quick response and I'll let you know how it goes after the range tomorrow.

Could the it be getting caught on the elevator, cartride stop or interupter?.....i dont see it as likely but figgured id ask. Theres nothing holding the forarm on from outside of the reciver..well once the barrels gone....so im kinda out of guesses

I picked up a 590a1 a few years ago new and had feed issues with it right out of the box. Turned out it was from an out of spec cartridge interrupter. Mossberg sent me a new interrupter, shell stop and forend assembly...problem solved.

I also have a Revelation Mossberg 500 made for Western Auto. After maybe 10yrs of faultless use, it also began failing to eject the empty.
For me, it was a simple fix...the ejector screw had loosened slightly. It needs to be tight to properly tension the ejector.
A screwdriver and loctite, and it was fixed.
As for the magazine tube, the earlier Mossberg 500's had a spring around the front of the mag tube which bears against a collar on the tube. In order to remove the pump assembly, you have to remove the mag tube.
Eventually, I replaced the tube on mine with a new one without the collar/spring.

Thanks for the info on the pump assembly. I'll probably just leave mine as it is, I just thought it was strange that it didn't slide out like the modern 500. As for the ejection issue it appears that one of the extractors isn't holding the case hard enough to allow it to eject properly. I have another 500 that shoots and functions perfectly and when I swapped the bolts out the older gun ejected and the newer gun wouldn't eject. So I'll either be repairing or replacing the bolt assembly depending on cost.

Also apparently one of the 1/2 dozen times I had the Revelation apart I lost the trigger housing pin retaining spring that is in the trigger housing. So I'll be ordering one of those as well, thanks for all the help guys.

That IS very good info, ive seen a dozen 500s and none i guess were old enought to have the retaining spring and collar

hey all , i just got an older mossberg 500b , 16 ga. ,,, problem with it is it wont feed shells after first shot. i had to replace stock because it was cracked and didnt shoot it before that so just figure it had this problem when i bought it..the shell stop just dont move when racking slide,,, i didnt think to look at that when i bought,, it ejects fine,,,,thanks BW

Bear2890; Try replacing the exctractors and springs first before the whole bolt assy. Should solve it.

Bob Watt; Replace the Cartridge stop and the Cartridge Interruptor.

Extractors are pretty cheap and simple to replace. Order fresh extractor springs while you're at it.
