I have a Mossberg 500 12ga 3" five shot, the standard model.

If I can get a 590 magazine tube can I swap the tubes and springs and then put a 590 barrel in it?

If so, does anyone know of a source for the tube?

YES you can change the magazine tube, I know someone that did that, however it will be better to buy an 590 shotgun.
NOTE: 590a1 has metal trigger assemble, metal safety and a thicker barrel making stronger.

check ebay.com saw a 7 shot magazine and barrel on sale last week

You will also need to change the barrel as well.

I'm not too worried about the trigger guard being plastic, I'm not going into combat or anything ;)

I just wanted a shorter barreled deer gun and Ihandled a 590 and liked the longer mag.

Thanks for the info.

Neat! So the 590 and 500's barrel lockup is the same?
What would be the advantage of doing such as swap? I can see getting a heavy walled 590A1 barrel and 8+1 capacity, but what else?

One word BAYONET
Some of the mossberg 590 have a Baynoet lug that will hold a GI M-9 or any M16 type bayonet.
It keep people away from the muzzle if you know what I mean.

I have a 500A.
I want a short barrel for thick brush and want extra capacity for fun.
You can't get an extension for the 500A because the barrel lug covers the end of the magazine tube.
So I guess the solution is swap the mag tube and get a new barrel.

Turns out I dont have money to do anything right now. :(
