Ok I know I am cheap, so no comments on that please!

I put a dow rod in the magazine for my mossberg 500. I did this to shorten the capacity to 3 rounds total, as I was bird hunting. Now I want to take the shotgun deer hunting before the season ends, and would like to restore it to a 5 round magazine. The problem is, the rod I chose was too small, and it is now jammed in the tube.

Anyone ever unscrew the magazine tube? If so, how and was it hard to put it back together?

Thanks.

On my 500, I must take off the barrel first because the magazine cap is attached to the barrel. The magazine tube will unscrew easily. To put it back on, screw the other way. All that is in there is a big spring and a little metal follower piece (and in your case a dowel). The spring is not super heavy tension and can be assembled without trouble.

ok. For some reason when i tried to unscrew the magazine tube, it wouldnt budge. I even tried using a pipe wrench, and still wouldnt work. I thought that it might be pinned or something, and was afraid to put more torque on it. I will try it again.

Thanks.

Ok, I tried simply unscewing it. It wouldnt work even with a pipe wrench. I was afraid the put full force on it because I was starting to think that the mag tube was pinned into place.

Thanks.

Try heating the receiver below the mag tube slightly. There may be thread adhesive on it. Once you break it free it should come off easily. Just be careful not to bugger up your mag tube by denting it with a pipe wrench. I'd try a rubber strap wrench if you cant get it off by hand.
