I have a stock Mossberg 500 in 12ga. It has the 28 inch field barrel and wood stocks. Anyway I want a sling to carry it small game hunting in the woods and for when I use it for deer with slugs occasionaly (theres a shotgun only area near me).

It doesnt have the stud in the rear, but there is the hole for the frint swivel on the magazine tube cap. I dont really want to drill into my stock or pay extra for a gunsmith install so are there any other options? I do know of the butler creek easy rider that has the stock and barrel loops on the end but that seems a bit hoky for me.

It's not hard to drill your stock, but it can be hard to center the hole. I did some job on my Ruger 10/22 stock. I'm about as handy as somebody with no hands :)

There are some 'tactical' sling mounts which replace the plastic spacer between the stock and receiver and provide either a sling mount or a swivel on the side. They've always looked awkward to me, but if you're looking for something non-permanent they would work.

There are some nice leather butt cuffs that hold ammo that also allow for rear sling point attachment. That might be another option.

Just be easy with your drill. Drill out a slightly undersized hole and use a wood screw stud to put in place. Preso. The synthetic stocks come this way already.

You can also replace one of the pins in the trigger group if I'm not mistaken. But for a hunting shotgun, you'll probably want the full stock to endcap for the sling.

Just some suggestions. Look at Brownells for options. They may not be the cheapest, but they have a great selection of what is out there.
