Blacklab, perhaps you should start your own thead--there's lots of knowledgeable users on the highroad that can provide a wealth of information to help answer all your questions.

Damagedworld, I prefer a conventional stock on mossbergs due to the thumb located safety and a folder/pistol grip tends to require some unergonomic manipulation, but Choate folders have been pretty solid in my experience. Try here:

Oh, better price (google is your friend - :) ) :

I have an ATI top folding stock as mentioned the top mounted safety is awkward to activate but the ATI does have a slot for your thumb to fit through while the stock is in the folded position.

the reason

because i am very comfortable shooting it at short ranges with just the pistol grip.. but i have a rifle class coming up that im bringing a friend to, and would like to try it on the rifle range actually aiming at slightly further distances..

I like the Butler creek protector, although the L.O.P. open seems fairly long.

short answer : I really don't like any of them, for one reason or the other. I'd go with the Knoxx folder, but it interferes with a sidesaddle. The ATI looks good, but by all reports is junk. The LOP issue with the protector. The Choate folder is uglier than homemade sin to me.

yeah what you said is what ive come to notice.. and it sucks..

is it that hard to make a non-ridiculous folding stock that actually works well...

Then don't buy the cheapest gun to start with.
Yeah don't but the gun that I trust my life to day in and day out. (M500) When you tend to carry a weapon for duty you tend to gain an emotional attachment to it I guess. Sure it ain't no 870 but it goes bang every time.

sometimes the answers on this board are really ridiculous... i would hardly consider the mossberg 500 the "cheapest gun to start with"
