I see this has been beat to death on other forums....I guess I'm a little dense and still need some help.

It looks like I need a standard 500 Action Slide Assembly Tube

I have the Mossberg 500A Combo from Big 5 (18 and 26 inch barrels), and Big 5 sells their 500A combos with Maverick 88 forends...NOT a standard 500

I would like to get a Hogue Forend ordered, however, I see this will not fit on my current setup

I see this offered as the place to get a new one...however there is single, double, and various sizes to choose from:
12 Gauge Single 7-5/8
12 Gauge Double 7-5/8
12 Gauge Double 8-7/8

Which one is for me?

Does this mean the one I have is the 6-3/4? (I haven't yet tried to remove and measure since there is no nut like on a standard 500)

Any help is appreciated.

Found an answer...I ordered the 12 Gauge Double 7-5/8

NEW Question:

Do i need the Forearm Adapter Nut?

When I boogered up the retaining nut, I called Mossberg and told them what I had done. They asked for the serial number and told me to mail the part in. They sent me a brand new assembly with nut at no cost. Might try that.

SInce I already ordered the slide action (hoping its what they sent you?), are you saying I will still need an adapter nut?

I bought my forearm on JohnMasen.com.....Since it's not Hogue, my fingers are crossed that just the new slide action will work?

Yours is a Maverick 88 forearm, Bill. The action bars are riveted directly to the plastic forearm. No nut. You don't have to measure that one. There's only one size of Mav 88 forearm so it doesn't need to be measured. You need to measure if you have a steel action slide tube ot be sure it fits your aftermarket forearm. The double bar 7 5/8" is what you need to fit the Hogue overmolded forearm....and you *will* need a forearm retainer nut if yours doesn't come with one already.

I just checked your link to Numrich....your tube doesn't come with a nut.

http://www.e-gunparts.com/product.asp?chrProductSKU=53290A is the part you'll need....but seriously, look on gunbroker before paying that kind of price. You can find them on gunbroker and ebay on the $4-5 range pretty often.

I didnt have any luck finding the one I need (found them for the 410 and 28 gauges)

Midway also carries it ($12.95), but they're out of stock.

If I order off Numrich I will have the Action Slide, and the Nut.....Will the johnmasen forend I ordered be the final piece I will need?

Also, do I need any special tool to install the nut?

Thanks a lot RandKL....I think you described the problem in less words than anything else I've found

Or do I just need to get the Hogue (i think I will eventually anyhow).

Power's blinking here from a storm. Lost my answer to you twice now so I'm going to keep this posted as I type.

I was under the mistaken impression you wanted the Hogue all along. I see now where I lost you. Sorry about that.

I've never seen that JM forearm before so I have no real proof, but the plastic one
"looks" to be 7 1/2". The nylon pistol grip one below that looks like a 6 1/2". Those are just guesses, though.

The Hogue adapter is a longer version of the stock nut and it's only intended to fit the Hogue forearm. Hogue's are overmolded with rubber so they need an extra long nut to reach the tube. You won't need one of those if you aren't going for the Hogue forearm.

You'll need the tube and the stock nut, though. Those are necessary on all aftermarket forearms on the Mossy 500. Most aftermarket parts are designed to fit that 7 5/8" tube but newer parts, the ATI "standard forearm" etc, are designed for the newer 6 1/2" tube. If you're like most "tactical" Mossy owners, you'll eventually have both tubes to suit your forearm tastes that week. Same goes for magazine tubes but let's wait on that. ;)

Those action slide tubes sell and they sell well. Folks are always looking for them. If yours isn't the right part, put it on ebay and get your money back and try the next shorter one.

Be safe!

I do want a Hogue...and I think I found one for $14 bucks so I'd like to order it. I plan on just sending the John Masen back most likely

However, I see in a note the Hogue grip "Will Not Fit 500A". Which I'm hoping is not true with the change out of the action slide, and getting an adapter nut?

Since you know what Action Slide I ordered....Can you advise on what exact nut (and/or nut extension or adapter) I will need to make the Hogue grip work with my new action slide, and if I'll need any special tool to make this work.

Again, thanks for the help

RandKL...Here is the latest.

The John Masen forend was out of stock, so I got the Hogue coming. I also ordered the nut.

I went back and read your last message, and see you said "extra long nut"...so I'm afraid I ordered the wrong one.

What nut?
Do I need a tool?
Will the new Action Slide have a screw on the end of the mag since mine is a Maverick Style?

Do I need a Forend Wrench to install the Hoge Grip (after I install my new Action Slide?)

Nopers. Bill. Any table knife will do. When you pull the Mav forearm and get ready to install the Mossy one, just slip your forearm on at that time. Your disconnector or your shell interrupter (they pop out when you pull the trigger group) are both a perfect fit. You only need a forend wrench if you're trying to install your forearm with the action tube already on the mag tube. With the action tube off the mag tube, anything straight will do.

Be safe!

Numrich shows the adapter nut as backordered too.....damn. This is getting frustrating

Any other ideas as far as where I can order it?
