I have a Mossberg 590 with bead sight. I would really like to upgrade to a more accurate sighting system for slugs. What are my best options without going with optics?

Without optics? It sounds as if you're in the market for a set of Ghost Rings. (Basically a tacticoll name for a front sight post and a large rear peep sight.) Either Midway or Brownells should carry them. I know that I've seen 'em at one of those two because I've been considering them myself.

Yup a set of ghost rings would be the way to go, but you can not take the heat shield off once the front sight is installed.

What would the purpose be for needing to remove the heat shield?

Getting rid of the excess weight of that totally worthless accessory.

Unless of course your needing to mount a bayonet after cranking off nine rounds so you can charge down Little Roundtop.

Go with the ghost ring sights, Tim.

They're a boat load of fun.

LOL, I always got a kick out of the "weight" argument when it comes to heat shields.
"Heatshields suck, they are just extra weight."
"Why does weight matter?"
"For when you're packing it with your bug out bag when the SHTF."
"oh, I see.... useless."

Not picking at you, Earl, just other posts I'd seen before.
