A1? Ghost vs bead, slugs, endless questions from shotgun newbie

Starting a new thread as the questions are taking a new direction and may get lost under the previous one.

By the way, I am leaning toward the 590 18.5", 6+1, field synthetic stock. Is the A1 version worth the extra? I didn't see extra barrels for the 590 on the Mossberg website--are the barrels interchangeable for a longer barrel?

Ghost rings or bead for primarily HD (under 10 yards) and some casual competition? The Mossberg bead sight fell into place as soon as the stock hit my shoulder. Nice. Would the ghost ring be of advantage?

Which of these can do slugs? The information on the Mossberg site was not really helpful.

GRs are a nice to have, but not essential. Beads work well and they are fast. In your shoes, I'd go with a bead and see how well I can slug it up for outside use.

The 18.5" mossbergs are 5+1.

I prefer a bead sight.

AFAIK, they dont make a low-end 18.5" 590 with the plastic triggergaurd and safety. Only the 590A1.

AFAIK 500 and 590 barrels are interchangable as to shot capacity (either 5+1 or 8+1). The 590A1 has the heavy wall barrel, steel trigger guard and safety switch. Yes, you can shoot slugs through the HD barrel, IIRC they are chocked either Cylinder or Improved Cylinder.

My previous 18.5" 500 and my current 20" 590 are cylinder bore. I'd rather have an IC, or at least the abilty to change chokes.

590 and 500 barrels are not interchangable. They attach to the mag tube differently. I think the Maverick 88s barrel is interchangable with the 500, as long as they are the same capacity, that may be what you're thinking of.

AFAIK, there is no 8+1 500.

Zach S thanks is correct. I was thinking about the Maverick 88 and Mosssberg 500. 500 and 590 are not interchangeable. What I said about Havelinsales still holds and now and going and looking on their site they do have 590 barrels available.
