Mossberg 930 & duck hunting

Yesterday was "Youth Hunting" day here in CT

I took my 14 year old out for his first "alone" hunt...

We went to a local pond and set up the decoys, I set him in a bunch of reeds in the marsh then as I was heading back into shore in the canoe he got his first drake wood duck, without any help from dad. Within 10 minutes, he'd gotten the hen...

Then it started to pour!! He got the Greenwing Teal hen in a slow spot in the rain...

So... for those that believe that duck guns have to be 3-1/2" & camo, my son would argue otherwise...

Awesome. Thanks for sharing. I'm among the crowd that thinks as you do.... I'll use 3.5" for geese, though 3" will work. Anything more than 3" is just not necessary for ducks. And I don't say this from watching hunting shows. We get 60 days here in Ohio, and I normally don't miss more than 10 of them. Takes a lot fuel, but it sure is fun!!

Nice. I bet he's hooked, now. That gun has some nice wood on it.

Regards to ammo, 2 3/4" 3 or 2 shot fasteel is deadly on any duck, no matter how big or pass shooting vs decoys. I'll take 3.5" steel T shot for snow geese on a clear day, especially late season. Actually, I really prefer my 10 gauge. Duck hunting is my main thing. I don't watch hunting shows that often nor read the 'zines.

Good lord! What do you feed your boy?! I think I was half that size when I was 14, lol.

He's 14 and he's already 6' and 170 lbs. ..

As to what he eats, we haven't found what he won't eat yet ...

He dressed the wood & teal hens and ate them both at one sitting ...
