Hello all,
I got my mossberg 930 field in september of 2008, and since then, through all the rem oil i have put into it, it still squeaks when the action is operated. I've tracked the squeak to the recoil spring in the rear buttstock, and i even disassembled that totally, lubed the tube and the spring, but it still makes that infernal squeaking every time the bolt is pulled back!:banghead: It sounds like the screams of 1,000 dying children! (ok, not that bad, but its making me go insane!!:p)
What can i do to get rid of that evil screech and have any other 930 owners out there noticed it?

How much have you shot it?

Not once...i was planning on selling it and buying a 500 +some ammo. I got it for a good deal, but then i read good things about it and now im keeping it, but i cant put up with that awful screeching

edit:
maybe it just needs to be broken in?

I had the same thing on a Beretta A390. Now this is a little different, because this was not a new gun when I got it.

When I disassembled the recoil spring I found a pretty good dose of rust. I certainly doubt that is the case on your new 930, but what I am getting at is the way I cured it.

I chucked a cleaning rod in my battery drill, put a 9mm bronze brush on it, wrapped it with 0000 steel wool, squirted it with a little Remoil and polished the bejeebers out of it.

The screeching banshees went away.

Just an idea but it might need some break in. Try starting with some light game/skeet loads then move on to heavier loads. Good Luck.

thanks everybody. ill probably try to polish it before i take it to the range

Another note in case polishing doesn't work: The saying goes that the squeaky wheel gets the GREASE. Oil doesn't always and even then not for long, work on squeaks.
