Well, me and some friends were bored this past tuesday and decided to do a little testing with my Maverick 88 18.5" 12ga..

I WAS having one of them record it while I was shooting, however, the putz never pressed the record button and I was talking into the camera like a jack***...

Anyways, we put 200 2 3/4'' Winchester Super-X slugs through it, followed by 100 rounds of Remington 00 Buck 2 3/4'' and 500 rounds of the cheap bulk walmart birdshot as fast as we could. The barrel was extremely hot and probably would have started glowing if we didn't run out of ammo + it would burn the skin off your fingers if you touched it. I don't advise trying this because you shouldn't abuse your guns like I do. Gave her a very thorough cleaning and inspection and all looks good..

Only 1 single failure, and that was an empty hull failed to eject because of excessive fouling I assume. All in all, very good shotgun :D

Since I have a Maverick 88 as a back up house gun, I very much appriciated your post. Looks like I made a good investment on an inexpensive shottie. :)

Was the torture of the shotgun or you?

Shotguns of quality handle inordinate amounts of ammo. We may not.

Well, that ought to keep you flinching real bad for years!!

Pretty sure you hurt your shooting skill more then you hurt the gun.

Great to hear!

Don't suppose you have any pics of the internals after the test. Also could you throw a caliper on the barrel to check for warpage?

I did something similar to what you did, but with a Mossberg 9200 a few years ago. A couple of important differences you should be aware of: the 9200 is heavier than a Maverick 88; it is gas operated; and most importantly, I was wearing a P.A.S.T. recoil pad on my shoulder. Made for a whole lot less pain than what you probably felt afterwards. Bottom line for firing all those different shotshells in a very short period of time: not a single malfunction of any kind. To me that was a torture test worth doing.

Excellent bcstov!

I have the 590 20 inch ghost ring sighted 12 and a 500 Mariner with 18.5 inch barrel.

I have no doubt the Maverick will do as good as any 12, fancy or plain.

And I bet that shoulder of yours does hurt!
