Okay, I tried the search feature and came up with 1200 pages, so if this has been covered my appologies.
Stopped by a gunshop today to look at some O/U's (I know, even God is shocked at this one). Saw a Mossberg with 20 and 28ga tubes for $599. It fit well and swung smooth. I know it's not a browning or the like, but how are they for just a kick around getting to know you O/U?

I got no personal experience with them , but I've read a lot of negative press on them in various forums. I tend to agree with Pete. Just remember your going to have to cock your head at a 90o angle to keep the sight picture your used to. :D

John does not realize he has entered the Twilight Zone.
Unlike most folks, John is unaware as he was full tilt boogie heading for the Shotgun for Clays at the time...

*lol*

Oh that pic is so funny!

I've got one, a Ducks Unlimited 12/20 combo, That is a great price for a combo!!!!

If you have to have an "over / under" combo and you want to get one for $600 the Mossberg Silver Reserve isn't a bad choice as long as you understand that this gun is designed to be a hunting gun and not a high volume target gun...

Check the serial number, if it is lower than these:

12GA - TR12046393
20GA - TR20015092
28GA - TR28005777
.410 - TR410006194

Keep walking, this is the point that Mossberg's importer fixed the firing pin problems.

If you're expecting a Beretta or a Browning you'll be disappointed, if you understand the price point that you are "buying into" you'll be fine.

Also, check out the Yildiz models that are sold at Academy stores, they seem to get fairly decent reviews....

I think Smitty in CT is spot on. I have an A390 with 30" barrel that I bought used for $450.00. I also have an AL390 I bought new, and a Yildiz O/U that was given to me by a buddy.

I have developed an embarrassing love affair with the A390. I just can't seem to bring myself to use anything else. I have only put around 1500 to 1700 rounds through it, but it has not had a failure of any kind. It fits me. I shoot it well.

My buddy gave me the Yildiz because he bought it and decided the O/U path was not for him. I had been talking o/u's, specifically the Weatherby Orion by SKB, because Academy had them for $995.00 brand new (still do I think), and he figured this would be a good opportunity to try out o/u's in general without spending a grand to do so. The Yildiz fits me well. I shoot it well. It too has never experienced any type of failure. I fired about 500 or so round through it. I just prefer the A390.

Obviously, we are all different, and you may prefer the the O/U to an autoloader. Lots of folks do.

For the price they are hard to beat - If you like the gun and like the price, I don't think you will be unhappy. Like stated, it is not a gun made for high volume so if your a regular trap or skeet shooter you might want to upgrade, but for most usage they are passable.

View those SN - that is in fact was the major complaint against this gun and has been addressed. Mossberg in fact stood behind the earlier guns and fixed them from what I understand.
