On this 590A1, what are the white areas between the barrel and mag? Some type of adhesive or bonding agent?

Silver solder.....your rich , you own silver..........normal
590 Accu Choke barrels...for fine tuning with all shot sizes.

Ah, if they are silver then it makes good sense. Steel parkerizes, silver doesn't.
